BS 6, the '*new* Himalayan 2020. Whats up?

Just riding the 'new' BS6. Major changes? hm, not realy.
There is no switch to switchoff the ABS. At least in the european BS6.
There is no hazard switch. It looks like they wanted...se attached foto.
But as far as I can see and drive, thats al with the missing links.
The instruments are better lightened now. More blueish then the former yellowish and that improves the visibility in darkness quite a lot. Everyone around 60 knows what I am talking about when it comes to reading distances...
They changed the brakes and the frontbrake ist now quite good from the very beginning.
Yes folks thats it so far. The coloring is nothing of big interest, in't it.

My local dealer hasn't had a Himalayan in stock since the Covid shut down the economy. He put is personal custom painted Himalayan on the showroom floor so customers could see what it looks like in person and to sell if someone pays his asking price.

I bought mine about 3 weeks ago at the dealer in Cheyenne Wyoming , last one he had and not sure when the next ones will be in .

Got a USA 2021 a few days ago. It has the hazard light switch. Also it's the rear brake that was improved for the Indian 2020 bike which is our 2021 bike.

Something strange is going on. There are videos of bikes in the US from October 2020 that have switchable ABS and hazard lights etc.
My dealer got 4 Himalayans in the batch that my bike was a part of ...end of Feb '21 all with Switchable ABS and hazard lights.

I was speaking to him two weeks ago about an accessory and he mentioned that he has received the next batch of 3 bikes and they don't have the hazard lights or switchable ABS. Go figure .
Old stock perhaps?

That is strange, and old stock is all I can figure. It would have to be 2019 old stock, though, because in India, they got the ABS and hazard lights on their 2020 model, and we always get our models a year late and got their 2020 models labeled as our 2021 models. There have been changes, again, for their 2021 model which we won't see until this fall as our 2022 model (larger rear rack, taller windshield and wider for the Tripper, redesigned saddle (kinda like the current touring saddle) and Tripper navigation. I guess bikes can be sold as the year they are licensed in the US and has nothing to do with year of manufacturer?

In the USA motor vehicle are titled and liscensed according to the model year the manufacturer puts on the factory data plate.

Mine titled today as a 2021, but it's a 2020 India model. No taller windshield, no updated seat, no tripper navigation, front racks don't have the new design, no plate on the rear rack (and it's not lowered), No black headlight ring, and the two new colors (pine green and mirage silver) aren't here for our 2021 models either, and no corresponding price hike either that the 2022 model will have... it's a 2020 model in India. We won't get the 2021 India updates until 2022.

Just picked up a new 2021 E5 version. It has the ABs switch (but it doesnt like working!). It also has the stupid electric compass that cant find south and the new satnav connected thingy that only works with Royal Enfield's less than impressive app. It also has CEAT tyres that really dont work well off road except on hard surfaces. The seat is nice though and the suspension and brakes work well.

I understand. I just sold my 2021 E5 version with 1500 miles on it because of all those little niggling problems, and some not so minor. It has a very undeserved cult following and it sucked me in, too! LOL. I could write a book about all the problems you are likely to encounter. I bought a 2021 Yamaha XT250 which I'm outfitting with panniers and tail rack, windshield, adventure mirrors, hand guards, etc and it's faster and a lot lighter than the Himalayan. And it's Japanese reliability. I get 92 mpg. I can pick it up easily when I dump it (remember I said "when" not "if"), and it starts cold with no killing problems and no "bi-starter" lever required. Guys have taken them to the tip of south america and back, and around the world because of their reliability. 'nuff said.

So you picked up the bike today. That’s great.

I know one can get frustrated with a new bike as one tries to figure out everything at once.

Im sure you have “read the manual” the mandatory 5 times.
There are many here who have taken the time to really get to know their bikes - there is a wealth of knowledge here. ( I’m newish to the Himmi and still learning).
So look up questions on this forum; if you can’t find answers ask. (we may not have all the answers).

As you probably already know the Himmi takes time to break in like most air cooled bikes.
1) New tyres take over 200km. My CEAT tyres are great for what it’s meant to do.
2) Brakes take time to bed in.
3) All parts to work together well - takes about 1000kms
4) The engine takes about 2000ks
5) Air cooled engines get to be quite good when it’s past 3000ks and better still past 6000ks.

He has just bought a new E5 Himalayan.

Re your specific questions: The ABS switch has a process see the manual. I was worried about the CEAT tyres but they are quite good. The Compass works for me - see manual. My compass is as accurate as a professional one that I used to test it against. I’m sure you know how to read the display > The arrow points North and the letters give you direction of travel.
I don’t have the navigator as mine is a Jan 2021 built bike. I have a Garmin Zumo for nav.

Finally If you bought the bike with your eyes closed (like a previous poster), and are not willing to take the time to get to know it’s idiosyncrasies - you bought the wrong bike.

Hey petespace1 (or space cadet) I had my eyes open wide when I bought it, but just like all the people on amazon reviews that say "I should have believed the bad reviews" I got duped by the cult following. My eyes were much more open wide after owning one (and my 57th bike). All royal enfields of pieces of third-world junk. Idiosyncrosies? BS. It's just 50 years old design junk.

"50 year old design junk" that was designed 2012 to 2016 with input from Harris Performance - British - google them. Itchy Boots must have been mad to do what she did, IF you were right.

I think Spydie you had a really bad day and clearly chose the wrong 57th bike.

while others have had bad days, I've been blessed with 30 000 kms on my 2018 Himma issue free in countryside like this.
