First service: tappet adjustment and oil change

I had been anticipating the first service eagerly. The tappet adjustment, oil and filter change all went smoothly. I took my time, did a thorough clean and polish, adjust and lube the chain, and installed an aluminum sump guard. I performed the service interval reset procedure and started it up (it sounds good). I will take it out for a ride later when it cools down. It's 102 degrees right now. Just a few tips for anyone getting ready to do this for the first time. Get your work area ready first. Think the job through and prepare. Have your tools and parts set up and ready. A little forethought goes a long way to prevent frustration and a botched job ;-)

I took a tip from one of Warro's videos and used a large ball to hold up the end of the tank. It was easy to disconnect the wire harness, fuel line, and vent hoses. Now Cisco has a new toy ;-)

I had to pull the tank again. There was oil seepage from the cover gasket. So, here's another tip; you may get away with reusing the cover gasket, but I recommend using new bolt seals. The cover bolts don't hold the cover down, the bolt seals hold the cover and cover gasket down. Don't reuse squished bolt seals. ;-)

I have been getting email from the dealership reminding me about service. I plan to do the maintenance and services myself, but one service item mentioned in the email has me concerned. It said, "Connect the motorcycle to the factory diagnostic computer to check for updates". Updates? Am I missing something important?

I’ve never heard of that either. It may be a scare tactic to get you in for service. I downloaded that HUGE service manual, so I’ll take a look and see if it says anything about a firmware update and get back to you.

I searched for 2022 Royal Enfield Meteor 350 firmware updates but couldn't find any information. I guess no news is good news. I ordered and will receive a FuelX Lite module soon anyway. The module is connected in line with the Oxy (Lambda) sensor. I'm not sure how it does all the things that PowerTronic says it does. As far as I can tell, it's just reading the Oxy sensor and then passing on some modified information to the ECU. Then it's up to the ECU (considering all sensor input) to determine how much fuel to inject.
