What have you done to or how's your Scram 411 recently?

Managed to get a long-ish ride in yesterday, the weather report for the weekend and next week is looking pretty grim for motorcycling so I made sure to take advantage of yesterday's sunshine.

So many people name their bikes, I've been mulling over options. Unfortunately, it seems to be taking the duty out of my hands and forcing a name upon itself... until it earns another name, my bike's name is going to be False Neutral.

ETA: Also got sideswiped by a tractor-trailer this morning, in my Honda Civic thank heavens. Car is still driveable and at least I wasn't on the bike, things could have ended up much worse.

Sorry to hear that. Everyone all right, not hurt? Sounds like you handled it well though I know it's unsetttling. Cars are the easy parts to fix. Stay safe.

Oh yeah, all good, nobody was hurt. It's just annoying. It's a 12 year old Civic with close to 200K on the odometer, I'm terrified they're going to want to total it instead of repairing it. There's no way we'd be able to get even a comparable used car for what the payout would be. But I was right: I'm so lucky I wasn't on the bike when it happened, and you're right: the car will be fixed or at worst replaced, so all is good.

Not in the US for some reason.
Correct. Though the online manual says LED, on '23 USA Scram, the tail/brake light is a type 1157 dual filament 5W bulb, OSRAM #7528.

Pulled a front turn signal. The manual does not say LED for them: OSRAM #5008 filament 10W bulb for replacements.

False neutral? ??
Something doesn’t sound right here.
Not heard of anyone complaining about/mentioning false neutrals on the scram/Himalayan - it’s a really good, positive gearchange, almost Suzuki like but with a longer lever throw.
Check the gear lever positioning (most likely) and clutch lever free play.
The whole power unit (engine/box) takes at least C2k miles to fully bed in.

Added a strip of 1/16" neoprene rubber - can be gasket material - to tuck the license plate wiring
tubing (brighter taillight thread) and turn signal/original plate light wires,
attaching between upper frame bolt and the two OEM license plate lighting bolts with zip ties to
hug into the wheel well.

Below after a first service dealer "wash" of hard water we have out here.

To clear away with Simple Green Crystal foaming cleaner and Aero Cosmetics Wash/Wax on the frame metal and
header/silencer being high-temp approved, inherited from the Jeep for body, engine and pipes.

Oh, oh oh, Ok, now I see what doesn't sound right. I did a bit of googling and I now realize I'm using that term incorrectly. I'm not getting neutrals between gears other then first and second (with one possible, very brief instance that hasn't repeated itself). What I THOUGHT I was referring to was my stellar ability to shift into neutral when trying to shift from first to second or vice versa. So not a false neutral I guess, maybe it's a "unintended neutral" instead. This is a situation that I think I'm comfortable writing off to my inexperience and any small amount of "break in" that you also referred to happening over the first couple thousand miles (just broke 500 miles this week).

So, I guess we can table that nickname for the time being.

I've become -exquisitely- good at upshifting to neutral to surprise no-go on the throttle for imagined second. Voice confirmation of gear in the helmet would be helpful with eyes on the road (and turn off blinkers!)! But at 380 miles we're still getting to know each other. I rarely found that on the old Beamer but it was not a daily ride like with the RE to learn a new bike faster. One interesting "facet" I've adapted to is not shifting to first when coasting until below a low speed - that is can downshift 5-4-3-2 while coasting and clutch pulled, but hold off on first until below a low speed when coming to a stop. Will otherwise on occasion feel a mechanical gear buzz of not wanting to drop into first (clutch pulled) and don't force it. I've found the rhythm, but am certain to get to first by a stop and not have to rock the bike to get into first from neutral - mentioned in the manual - which has happened a couple times and is not safe at lights out here with impatient drivers. Dealer said it's the type of transmission and checked free play and clutch for certain is against the handlebar. I'm past the first service as well and enjoying up to 50 for a while and likewise look forward to the system settling in over the next 1000 miles with some trips in the works.

Haha, I used to get that 1st to N shift a lot on my Himalayan, til the works got a few thousand miles on it and I learned to put a light upward pressure on the lever just before the shift to 2nd. You'll definitely feel it loosening up to a point. Mine has been perfect since the 5K mile mark, a light snick and good to go.

Wanted to tidy up the rear came up with this, no cost, and back to original anytime
Looks great! I've always been a fan of backwards compatibility. I have some aluminum sheet I can use for the license plate backing, did you make the rest of the bracket yourself out of flat iron?

You should cut a pattern and start selling them here!
