Spare tubes or a patch kit?

Really? I've never known one that didn't.

How do you know she hasn't?

Spare tubes or a patch kit?

A lot depends on the trip, how long and how remote. But my basic setup is a patch kit and a front tube. Front can be used in the rear if need be.

    Touring jacket

Well, I hope not too! :) But my last jacket (a First Gear) lasted 15 years. If the Klim does as well I'll be 82. Gotta be realistic about things. Especially if it turns into an excuse to buy what you really want. :D

    Acerbis fuel tank

Sure, most people won't need it. But for those that do it's important and very helpful.

    Touring jacket

For me, a good Gore-Tex suit makes life easier. A good one will have vents that can be open or closed so you have a wide range of temps it works in. No need to carry extra rain gear, and if it rains halfway home you just carry on, no stopping on the side of the road and doing the "rain gear...

Ronayers.com is good too, for all the Japanese manufacturers.

Has anyone removed and replaced a Himalayan engine?

Hmm, no way to edit on this site?? Anyway, a couple of clarifications/corrections. Put a rag in the exhaust port also! You can reduce the chances of a problem with FOD by turning the engine to TDC on compression stroke before starting. When I say "everything" attached to the engine, use a...

Has anyone removed and replaced a Himalayan engine?

Never done it on a Himalayan, but for most bikes it's not too hard to R/R motors. Basic steps are: Remove everything attached to the engine: fuel tank airbox carburetors/throttle bodies (stuff a clean rag in the intake tract to prevent anything from falling into engine.) exhaust...

    Itchy's new bike !

I was thinking exactly the same, the guys building the bike will be her parts lifeline if she needs anything that can't be sourced locally. And a source of expertise for any troubleshooting. IMO, a better support system than you'd get with most new bikes.

Possible big problems with tubless rims on 450

Yeah, I've got to think that if there was a fundamental problem with the design ADVRider would be aflame with all the BMW guys bitching about it. :D

Possible big problems with tubless rims on 450

    Cross-wind riding technique

LOL, welcome to the wind zone. I lived for many years in Oklahoma (in VA now :)), and any trip to good riding area entailed hours of east or west travel across I-40. Your tip works well, and when it's really blowing it also helps to lean forward some on the bike. But in the end it's always...

first service done- less than enthused !

Ever wonder why most, "I stripped some threads" posts on motorcycle forums include the phrase, "in spite of using a torque wrench"? ;)

    Test ride review

Yep, all the way to redline. :) I don't remember a particular band where the vibs were noticeably worse, but the ride was short and I was mostly accelerating or decelerating, not holding it in a steady rpm range.

    Test ride review

Just got back from a test ride. TLDR: I like it! The rest of the story: Short ride, just 3-4 miles. Seat was in the low position, but still felt fine. (I'm 5'11", 32" inseam, 165lbs) Easy reach to the ground. Peg position is a little forward of perfect, but didn't bug me when I was paddling...

    Life is hard...

Just want to let my fellow retirees know that I share their pain. I'm forced to leave on Friday to spend a week on the backroads of West Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. Then 2 weeks after that a 2 week trip out to the South Dakota Badlands and Teddy Roosevelt NP. The struggle is real!!!! :p
