First oil change on recently purchased 2010 Bullet EFI C5 (500)

Good amount of shavings in oil after draining. Cast Alum shavings & tiny nuggets.
total miles on bike 8600.

One mech. says major problem..
Another says no big deal. Fill back with oil . Says it is from wear on clutch. Normal.

Bike was properly maintained. One owner.

My plan was complete oil change. Ride a bit.
Drain oil and re- inspect,

Any thoughts?

Yep ,drain , new full Ester Synth oiand new filter, magnetic drain plug if possible and treat the clutch and box kindly, only slip at take off and no clutchless gear changes.
If it looks the same next time you do have a problem!

I'm not saying that your problem or a problem. I'm just thinking that by 8,6000 miles any break in metals or left over swarf should be long gone by now. The bottom end is all forged steel and roller bearings so aluminum ain't coming from there. The valve train is all steel too so what's left to consider ? . Maybe the previous owner assumed 10,000 mile oil change interval like a car or maybe something is loose and rubbing on something aluminum. It still coulda been a chunk of swarf stuck to a surface finally came loos and got ground up.

I know the previous owner. ( My Dad.) He kept his bikes well maintained his mech. was top notch.
So I know that is probably not it. I think your last thought is more likely.
I will see next oil change. Thanks for your take on it.
You may hear from me again in the future on this one but hope not.
Happy trails.

The “tiny nuggets“ make me very nervous! If it was mine and if it was my dad’s I’d be doing a complete rebuild. Also repace the valves as those years are known to suck the exhaust value.

Hello Flyboy,
It’s been over a year now. What did you decide to do? How’s the bike doing? What did the previous owner, you dad say about it?

I have a 2010 Bullet I bought new back in 2010 with 9,000 miles on it now. After the second oil filter change at 300 miles I only get a small amount of metal fuzz on the magnet.
