@LIGuy me too. A few unfortunate experiences leading large groups (as many as 20+ bikes) 20 years ago changed my mind. One in particular was an inexperienced rider, a short fella, bought himself 1800cc Goldwing that was way too big for him. Too heavy too tall could barely touch the ground. One day as the group turned into a stopping point, he in the middle of the pack me leading he crashes his bike into a ditch and goes airborne for 100 feet. He threatened to sue me as the leader of the group. And there was a perpetual bitching “why are we going so slow?“, “How come we’re going so fast?“, On the same leg of the ride, in which I never exceeded 10 over to appease newer riders. On another ride, I had another inexperienced rider (evidently) run into the back of my bike. And of course, the inevitable bitching about rest stops, meal stops, hotels whatever. It was fun for a while until it wasn’t.
When I’m by myself or with one or two of my well-known, experienced peeps, I don’t have to worry about what anyone else thinks or does. And they know I don’t care.
