Anyone ship their bike?

Thinking of doing the Great Continental Divide Ride (GCDR) this summer but have concerns about riding from Western New York to Northern Montana (or maybe to Alberta) on my Himalayan. Has anyone shipped their bike using a service? Any other ideas on how to get my bike out there?

My pal mike found a deal searching the web from a terminal in Seattle, WA. to a moto dealer in Charlotte, N.C. for $600. Other than the price and it was shipped on its own pallet I don't know the particulars.

U-Ship can be cheap if you're flexible on pick up / drop off dates, times and locations and willing to make concessions on loading & unloading. The easier and less out of the way you can make it for the driver the better your chances of getting a lower price. We did it four times from the mid west to the pacific coast for around $500 each time.

Air Canada is screaming deal for coast to coat at Northern Lat's. You and the bike from B.C. to Ontario for $1,500 CDN when it's all said and done.

When you add in the cost of the airline ticket and shipping both ways you could probably buy or rent a light trailer and haul it out there if you don't have a truck for a lot cheaper.

A buddy and I hauled our bikes out west due to time constraints because we wanted to get in 3 weeks of riding once there so we drove straight through with the bikes in his truck. We arranged with a motorcycle dealer to allow us to park the truck in their fenced in back lot while we were on the ride. They didn't charge us anything and were happy to do it.

Well......no truck, no riding buddies......just me. Too bad there wasn't a thread (I haven't looked) where folks posted upcoming cross-country trips with motorcycle space on their trailer or truck where someone could get transported.

No car? You could buy this and tow 700 lbs total. What car can't tow 700 lbs? https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200466701_200466701?cm_mmc=Google-pla&utm_source=Google_PLA&utm_medium=Trailers + Towing > Trailers&utm_campaign=Ultra-Tow&utm_content=14717&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjOa0j9ij4gIVikYNCh1Z3Av9EAQYASABEgKnWfD_BwE

No place to store it? Sell it when you get home for $400 and now you only spent $400 plus gas to haul your bike out west. Just thinking outside the box because I don't like giving up control of my bikes to someone else.

I know this is a old thread, but.
Have thought about just riding point to point on your Himmy? That‘s what I do. Did you know your Himmy comes with tires that are made for 20% off road and 80% on road? My longest day so far has only been 650 miles, a piece of cake and I’m just a old guy in my mid 60s. Just think of the adventure your‘ll have and all the stories you’ll have to tell doing so. Then there is all the extra money you’ll have to spend on the trip and not the added hassle or stress of shipping the bike and flying your self there. No worries just ride.😃
