Bicycling Underwear for motorcycling.

Lost in the 60's

Back in the day I was an avid bicyclist. But it's been about 15 years since I last did any serious biking. Just the other day I rememembered that tucked away in the back of the bottom drawer of my dresser are 5 pairs of padded bicycling underwear. They probably date back to the 90's. I used to wear them under my regular shorts or sweatpants when I rode my bicycle. I never did wear those padded lycra shorts because if your size is XL like me you really don't want to do that. Anyway, yesterday I put on a pair of them under my jeans and went for a 20 mile motorcycle ride and they really did seem to make a differerance.

I've still got a couple of pairs of wool leggings from my cycling days that are really great in the cold. Under my waterproof pants and stuff, they really make a big difference. The stirrups make them really easy to keep in place when you're getting suited up, too.

Extra padding in important areas (and more effectively, no seams up the sensitive bits) would logically help in most cases.

The wife wears the riding pants (basically long and thick yoga pants with a phone pouch on one thigh) she wore while commuting by bicycle (back in the D.C. area) under her armored riding gear. Can't say I'm not jealous, but for my body shape I'd be a problem for everyone who had to see me out of gear so I wear Dickies between the armor and my Culprit skivvies.
