BSA's Off the VIN Inspector.

Beyond unique!
Not knowing how to do something has never stopped me from trying.
All the suspension came from a 2003 Husaberg FX470 that I raced in the desert with my son. He had a Husaberg FS501. He go married back around 2009 and sold his bike. I tried to register the Husaberg as a Dual Sport, but the California DMV said the VIN number was only allowed to be registered as Off Road Green Sticker only.
So I said "I'll show you guys" I had a 1968 BSA Victor frame left over from a parts bike I had used to build another and sold years ago. I put it together with all the Husaberg parts, including the 470 SOHC 6 speed electric start single. I road it for a few years and the starter sprag failed causing me to have to be a Victim AGAIN and kick start the darn thing on the wrong side. Knowing I was going in for a double knee replacement I did the Yamaha Seca swap.IMG_20240503_121324224.jpg
Same frame and VIN number but with another engine swap. It's considerably heavier with the Yamaha, but still lighter than most 400 Dual Sports at 345lb

My bike was a US import , a ex racer run by a team who painted their bikes red.
So needed a bit work to get it back to stock, and the 20" rims were replaced with alloy 18" as there are few tires to fit the 20".
Things like a oil filter, Pazon ignition, taper steering head bearings, sleeved engine mounts, three phase alternator, oil seal and bearing at back of uprated clutch and most of the usual engine mods as per Rupert Ratio? were done too.
Every cover was lapped on plate glass, no gaskets used and sealed with Loctite flange sealant, it had a different number back then- 603? - but the number has long since worn off the big bottle!
Sad to see it go, but the new owner, and his grandson ,were so happy and excited to get it I know it is in good hands!

I got the new Tusk Waypoint Adventure tires mounted today. 90/90-21 up front and 130/80-18 rear. Getting the 25-year-old 6 ply 140/80-18 Pirelli off the rim about did this old guy in. Tomorrow, I might load it back up on the trailer and make the 60 mile trip to the Brake, Light & safety inspection and then visit the horrid DMV to finish the title paperwork.

I also got the new GPS Speedometer and sender/antenna mounted and hooked up. All Lights, turn signal horn and switches are all done.

It warms my heart to see that someone is giving DMV the same challenges from our side of the counter, as they present to us from their side of the counter. ;)

I took the BSA Trackmaster in for the Brake and Lamp inspection today. They never told me that it needed to run so they ride it and check the stopping distance from 20mph. I asked the inspector if he has ever ridden a motorcycle that shifted on the RIGHT side. He didn't even know there was such a thing. I wasn't expecting him to have to actually ride the bike. I had just drained all the fluids and cleaned the sump screen, installed a new tank with new paint and never put gas or oil back in it. Oh well another delay.

Finally some good news. I passed the Brake, Light, And Safety inspection today., only $300.00 USD. Then went to the DMV and paid another $100.00 on top of the $57.00 I had already paid for the title. I opted for the Special Vintage Motorcycle Plate which will come in the mail with the new title in a few weeks. In the meantime, I at least have a temporary registration card and it's legal to ride.
