Classic 650,s arrive in Western Australia

Wow! That black and chrome is sharp. I'm in such a quandary now. The Interceptor and Classics 650's are too much alike for me to have both but at nearly 8k miles my Interceptor is purring like a kitten and still getting comments so I would hate to give it up. Just have to wait for the Classic 750...

Maybe my taste is all in my mouth. The 650 Classic doesn't work for me. The J350 Classic is one of the best looking bikes on the market. But the 650 looks misshapen. With the exception of the headlight/forks/front fender, and the side covers, everything else looks slightly off.

Worst of all, the 650 motor is too modern looking for a fifties makeover. Frankly, I've never particularly like the look of the 650 motor, even though I think it's marvelous. It's too round and smooth. When the Brits went unit construction, Triumph did it right. The BSA power egg was boring.

I never get tired of looking at my Interceptor, but to me, it looks more early seventies Japanese than British.

But...
I hope they sell a bunch of them, because RE's dedication to building retro motorcycles should be rewarded.

I'm alongside Stef on this one. I wanted a Classic 650 when I bought my 350, or so I thought. As time passes, I find that what I really want is a ShotGun.

I too hope they sell a bunch of the Classic 650s, mostly to ShotGun owners so that it'll tank the value of that bike and let me pick one up cheap.

And for those who havn't seen the video, Glyn Owen did a mockup of 'fixing' the Classic with a ShotGun rear end. He called it the Cla-gun (claggun IIRC is old west anglian for 'all stuck together'). The Classic 650 looks so much better with the SG rear end.

I'm reserving my judgement until I see one in person. As opposed to dating sites where the pic always looks better than the real thing, bikes have a way of reversing that. ;)
The only thing that I see that doesn't work in the pics is the exhaust needs to be horizontal (flat) with the ground like the Classic 350.....but again, I'll wait till my dealer has one to truly check out.

I was believing that I am so smitten with the J350 in the Classic and the Bullet, I would not appreciate the twin 650 versions. But the pics above do work for me. I won't buy either, though a Shotgun frame is still on the list. But it got me thinking about a bigger, 750 plus, Interceptor as I tend to do. It's a small thing but I would always have to have the twin analog clocks on an Interceptor or GT. If they ever go single clock or twin digital, it would kill both bikes for me. Then I would definitely have to go Norton. Irrespective of the Loctite issue, which from reports TVS is handling really well.

Yes. The analog gauges on the Interceptor are most elegant. Very classy design, "old school". They need to stay that way.

I prefer the front forks, the exhaust and the non-blacked out engine of the Classic over the Shotgun. Guess that is why they make both.

Almost a privilege to unbox these beauties.
Black and Chrome came out first and the Teal last, it is well worth the extra 200 buck, frame looks and feels sexy smooth where the others have a textured speckled finish.
