Does your Himalayan have a name?

My wife just got a new Himalayan, and is transitioning from a Yamaha TW200. The Himalayan is just a little taller, but she can still flat foot it. The problem is the Himi is so much heavier, and if she gets it off balance at a stop, she has trouble supporting the weight and has tipped it over several times. She wanted a slightly larger bike that she can load up with camping gear and travel at highway speeds to access more dirt roads for adventure riding here in Utah, but I'm afraid she may have bit off more than she can chew.

Anyway, as a good luck mantra, we found the Hindi word "Eemaandara", which we have shortened to name the bike "Emandara", which means "UPRIGHT".

I had a Porsche Carrera once. I named her "Shakira" after the Colombian singer. The Carrera has a great appearance from behind.
I think I will name my Himalayan "Otto". I have no idea why. But he looks like an Otto.

(See other thread under Campfire also) ... but "Tara" - the Buddhist goddess of navigation and earthly travel - god knows I can use her help (any Buddhist/Indian members feel free to correct/elaborate/expound - she seems to cover a multitude of meanings).

Mine's called Gimli's Axe (Lord of the Rings fans will get the reference).
I don't know how, but I do know when. We were just chattering away about bike names on a forum... and I suddenly realised she was named 'Gimli's Axe'. And it's stuck.

Before that, I aways used to say 'it depends on what it's just done' And I'm not someone who typically names vehicles, only one other has managed it and that was my third MGB... that I kept for 13 years before foolishly selling it.

This is the first bike I’ve had that I’ve named. I think Noraly has something to do with that…
My Himmy, she’s called ‘Black Karahi’. A Karahi is an Indian wrought-iron does-everything cook pot that produces magical results. Seemed to sum up the Himalayan with a regional connection to her homeland (not Leicestershire). And well, she’s black. It’s also a similar name to a Wookiee bounty Hunter, but that’s a totally different story altogether.

So, does naming your bikes make it harder to part with them?

The only vehicle I came close to thinking about naming is my latest truck, and the name is "Christine", if you know what I mean.
I once had a chain saw that went by the same name.... it tried to start running backwards once and tore all the ligaments in my arm and shoulder when it sucked the pull start back. Last I saw of it, it was on it's way to the scrap metal yard. But you never know - it could always show up again...
