Drift Ghost HD camera

chippychip65

Well travelled
So, my old drift camera remote control has finally bitten the dust. The camera itself has been as good as gold, but as time went on, the remote control for the camera just never kept it's charge, so much so, that it can't even connect to the camera now...
I hate the newer drift camera's because they've seemed to have taken out the little screen at the side, so you could have viewed your footage, and they don't seem as "strudy" as the old ones. The reason I like Drift camera's is because you can mount them to the side of your helmet intead of either sticking them on top or on the chin guard like you have to with the Go Pro's. I guess I'm going to have to record my trips either by pressing the little record button on top of the camera, or scour the internet trying to find a newish remote control. Failing that, does anyone know a similar action camera you mount on the side of the helmet, rather than the Go Pro way of attaching it to the chin guard? and is there anyone out there with a remote control compatable with the old Drift Ghost HD camera? I guess the nwer one's flogged on the Drift web site might not be comptable with my old one!!

Cheers
Graham

Maybe reach out to their customer support? I have one of the cheaper ones without the integrated screen and when I first got it I had an issue that required return and replacement. Although I bet that's not an option for you, my point is they were quick to answer emails and offer solutions. It may be that the extra remotes are not usually needed enough for them to put them up for sale on sites, but they may be able to help you get one.

I agree that the Drift Ghost series creates a mounting option favorable for those who don't want to look like a Teletubby or have their fresh air blocked by the GoPro on the chin of the helmet. I just use mine as a "dashcam" though and never look at the footage unless there is an issue. To each their own but I would find a remote to be a hassle, just one more thing to look for and lose in my case.

TL;DR on this one is just reach out to customer support and see if they can help, they were very cool for me in the past.

My thought is that a local electronics repairer might be able to replace the battery in your remote.

The batteries in my Sena SMH-10 helmet comms are, and I quote, non replaceable,.
I think what that really means is we won't replace your battery because we'd rather sell you a whole new unit instead.

Replacement is simply remove a few screws unplug the old battery and replace with a matching generic one from Amazon or eBay and reinstall the screws, as seen on YouTube.

I hope the battery in your remote is easy to replace.

I think the battery is replaceable, however, I can't seem to find one the same size, it's about 20mm in diameter and it looks like an obscure type - I've tried to search for it, but I haven't had much luck at the moment..

In a remarkable piece of good luck, I came across this YouTube video ..
and found there's a common fault with these remote controls. I reopened the remote this afternoon, and found that one of the little "dots" had just come adrift slightly from the contact. I put this "dot" back in place, and to my surprise, the remote now works as normal. For a test, I left both the camera and the remote control switched on to see how long the battery would last, and 20 mins later the camera is still recording, and the remote stops and starts the camera as normal! I unerstand that if the camera is turned off, then then the remote turns off as well in sync with it. I'm very happy that both the camera and most importantly, the remote is now working as normal!! The battery on the camera is very easy to swap out, but the remote might need a little more work in the future when and if that fails, and I think I'll have to take it to a small electronic repair shop, for a replacement battery but until then, I'm happy overall! Many thanks to those who replied to this little puzzle! Thanks!

I have bought a few batteries in the past for various projects. The important part here is the 350mAH 3.7v. That means to replace it you need a 3.7v (one cell) battery with at least 350mAh. mAh is just how long the battery can supply 3.7v before running out of juice. Also, this one has a third wire for the thermistor.

I found this one on ebay, its 20mm*20mm*4mm, 150mAh 3.7v with a thermistor wire.

I would take a measurement again of the exact length width and height, all of these batteries take up the same mass really so a 350mAh battery should be closer to the 35mm*35mm range. If that's the case then your looking for something like this one or this one. (I found this post on a Czech forum where someone was asking about this battery and provided 34 mm*36 mm*3.2mm as the measurements)

I'm impressed at the test procedure shown by the seller in the ebay item description, very thorough and confidence inspiring.

I find this very uncommon among most ebay sellers.
