Finally saw one in person

Went down to local dealer to see one of these in person. As this will be my FIRST bike ever, It caught my eyes as beginner-friendly. And I seems it is. At 6'2" I was quite comfortable on it. It felt natural, and the sales guy said it fit me perfect. I was able to stand up flat-footed with the bike between my legs - very stable. The shop as an amazing price point for a brand-new bike! If the money works out right - I might just do it.

Remember when buying new that the negotiated price does not include shipping, assembly, etc, etc. So your out the door price may be significantly higher than what the tag and salespersons all say, not to mention taxes and tags as applicable in your locale.

Glad the Scram fits you well, it's a fantastic bike for what you want to do.

Adding RE of Bennington VT. It's an office of RE Albany but closer to you. But re the money, maybe better to pay a little more but get the relationship going with your local dealer.

I agree. I have the number I can afford in my head - lets see how close he gets. Otherwise, I am going to have wait until something used pops up. Might not end up being a RE though :-(

My dealer has 2 used Scrams, one a 23 with 63 miles. They do ship, I think about 650 to your area. Essentially a new bike with 2 years warranty. Basically save you set up fees. Mods, if this is inappropriate please delete.

If things are really tight, I would call these people and tell them what you can afford. And maybe do the same thing with your local dealer. But the Albany people may work more with you. They did offload their excess 22 Twins at a very good price. And I would also check with iowa al's dealership. There are many variables and some dealerships have bigger overheads than others.

Actually I just went to the RE Albany site to look at that RE Khardungla V2 jacket iowa al suggested on another thread.

This is part of the rotation:

Choose between these two financing options on a new Scram!
Zero Down, 0.00% interest for 24 months *OR* No Interest, Deferred Payments for 6 months, followed by the FRF Standard Rate.

*Offers cannot be combined*

I would call everybody and tell them what you can afford. I have friends who shop for cars that way and it may take two or three dealerships but they always get their car.

Based on a conversation I had at my dealership, I don't think the Scram 411 will be returning. Something about not meeting sales expectations. In fact, I think the 411 engine will not continue to be made. If you want a new one, I wouldn't wait. If this turns out to be true, there may be a model similar to the Scram with the 450 engine, or at least another model based on the 450. I guess all we can do is wait and see.

Not meeting sales expectations sounds a bit odd to me, almost half of the REs that my dealership sells are Scram bikes. And from what my dealership says, the Scram outsells the Himalayan by a fair margin for the market of sales to people living in the Himalayan mountains.

I think maybe they Scram sold better than they wanted it to and RE wishes most of those people were buying the full Himalayan instead for extra profit margin.

I figured RE would use up the rest of the 411 motor stock in next years Scram, then make a 452 Scram based on the new Himi. It's an easy formula for them.
My dealershp sold out of Scrams before anything else. Of course, they were on sale for $3999, plus the usual fees.

If what I heard is indeed factual, I'm sure RE is looking at global sales. I'd hate to see the Scram be discontinued. It's a pretty cool bike imo. It seems RE has some new models in the works, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

Imho the 410 isn't going away anytime soon. Someday but not now.

Reason for my opinion:

RE gave everyone a years notice before discontinuing the Pre Unit Iron Barrel engine. Again with the Lean Burn engine and twice more with the 535 and 500cc displacements.

They tend to make things as long as people buy them enough.
Take the UCE 350 for example. It's been in production since 2008.

Future proofing with regards to emissions standards.
Makers shoot for better than passing so they can get their tooling investment back.
DR 650 and DRZ 400 meet current emissions specs...and their carbureted. It's too bad that they don't have ABS to meet Euro and coming Oz safety standards.
