Front end noise when squeezing brake

Brendan Papciak

Finally made it
Hi there,

I had posted a while back on this issue, but am still experiencing a mysterious sound that is associated with the squeezing of my front brake lever. It sounds like the freewheel of a bicycle, making a ticking sound. Below is my original threat. I have cleaned the brakes, and also replaced the pads.

Any ideas?

Brendan

A Bzzzzz sound when squeezing the front brakes is normal on this bike.

There's some principles of fluid dynamic + music theory behind it.

There's also another Bzzzzz that can show up around 4k rpm too.
That one's caused by the headlight ring vibrating when the tiny rubber snubber gets lost.

Try putting it on the center stand and add some weight on top of the rear seat so the rear tire is on the ground and the front tire is in the air. This way you can spin the tire and try to replicate the same noise and watch as the tire spins and check to see if it's wobbling also. Hope this helps, if not might want to take it to the dealer if it is of major concern. The only weird noises I had was around 4k rpm there was a rattle like vibration sound at first I thought it was the valve train. So I was investigating it and found it was coming from the headlight bucket. I solved it by lining the inside of the housing with Dynamat I had an extra piece from my car project. Best of luck and hope all works out well for ya.

Mine also makes the buzzing noise when applying the front brake. My Suzuki DR200 did exactly the same. Both bikes brakes work perfectly.

Microvibrations in the pads can cause that, refreshing the anti-rattle grease can fix it. I haven't had my Himalayan's brakes apart yet, so I don't know if it has either grease or shim, or perhaps both yet. If the brake has neither, it will often let everyone around know!

These Himmies def gonna shake tho. Every single-cylinder engine has a noticeable NVH peak where rattles come from the damnest places. I once re-geared a riquimbili I built because it's NVH peak occured at 30MPH (the desired cruising speed in top gear was 32max). I shifted the NVH peak to 33MPH, and that solved the problem for that build. He ended up cruising at 26-38 anyway haha
