I bought one of these that works great although mine and some others that have bought them experience fuel flowing through them when disconnecting the gas line to remove the tank. Not a problem if you carry a rubber plug to put over the end when disconnecting it. Odd thing was when I initially installed it it was fine.

Shouldn't the pressure regulator stop the flow, they are usually just a ball valve held by a tiny coil spring, and it is normal practice to replace / check the pressure regularly.
On some BMW's the regulator is combined with the fuel filter to ensure that you do.

Apparently something is different here because when I put my OEM pump back in again it was fine with no flow.

👍It should stop the flow if working properly.

Just the motor.
Interesting. Curious as to why the fuel doesn't cut off with that pump installed.

Maybe I can convince my riding buddy to order one of those pumps so I can check it's pressure and flow since I'm already going to be doing it with the one I get from Himalayan-Tools. The more options for parts the better.

Interesting article which may have some bearing on selecting alternative fuel pumps (I'm not obsessing over this, honestly):

Thanks for the interesting and informative article. Kind of explains why there are failures with the RE Keihn pumps.

Looks like the Himmy pump has a low flow rate - but the engine has a low fuel burn compared with larger race engines. So is adequate for the task.
Or am I missing something?

There is a Check Valve in the Pump/motor outlet but I imagine it works the opposite way and would allow fuel to flow when the line is removed.
Pressure regulator dumps fuel back to the tank but wouldn't allow it to flow outwards.
Perhaps if fuel runs out when the line is disconnected it is because you forgot to transfer the fuel first ;)
