My bike (UCE 500 classic) had been suffering from a slightly nagging sticky gear change from 2nd to 1st gear when stopping at traffic lights etc - Often resorting to me having to let the clutch lever out a bit so the gear could then enagage, but it would do so with a slight complaint.
So whilst pulling off the crancase cover to fit a Carberry plate, I took a leap of faith and fitted a replacement gear change assembly. aka GCA- my think was try this first as easier than thinking the gearbox itself might be at fault.
So just reporting back in case anyone else has the same issue.
I used the following youtube link as a reference

Fitting is a bit interesting as you have to remove the oil drive spocket wheel and the oil pump in order to an angle the shake to,e old mechanisn out and then install
the sprung pawl arm into a hole and push it left with your finger so it enages with the crank rib. (actually easir than it looks!)
On comparing the factory GCA to the replacement part ordered from Hitchcocks £16.00 + vat + postage - Complete assembly inc springs etc
On inspection I really could not tell any difference between the old part and new as all areas seemed to be identical (no hint of wear etc or bend as far as i could tell)
Well the bike is back together and the difference is amazing - I never though of even changing down from higher gears as being stiff etc but the new part is brilliant - the gearchanges are now sliky smooth (well for a bullet !) and I can engage every gear uyp and down with ease !
Happy days !
