When I fitted panniers and racks to the 350 Reborn the instructions didn’t include torque settings for the upper bolts of the shocks. Rang up Hitchcock’s and was told that it was between 32-38Nm. Set the torque on high side at 38Nm which is only 28 ft lbs. I was putting the bike on its center stand and noticed some free play in the grab handles; with some force I can move them with my hands. Is this normal?

Standard torque values for metric nuts can be found here :

The Meteor manual has the following :
Shock top hex flange bolt (M10) - 32-38 NM
Shock lower bolt - 25-35 NM

If things are moving when torqued correctly then I'd check the fittings are actually flat and not distorted at the mounting points. If they are curved you would get the effect you mentioned.

Hope this helps.

Yeah everything was fitted back correctly. Used a digital torque wrench I haven’t used before. I’m going to use my tried and true and see if maybe it’s inaccurate.

So I used my other torque wrench and found that 35ft lbs takes care of any looseness and also applied blue loctite to the threads.
