Have a suggestion, complaint or compliment?

I don't seem to encounter any problem with ads.

Here's a screenshot from my iPhone (Safari, no ad blockers or any special software on my phone):

And here's a screenshot from my desktop Mac (again, Safari, no add-on software to that browser):

I typically read the site here on my desktop Mac using Firefox, but I have a lot of ad blockers installed on Firefox, so that's not a real test.

As I mentioned, and as you can see, using Safari on either my phone or my Mac seems to eliminate any ads.

One last thing: when I view the forum, I am signed in on all of the devices. I assume that if you're not logged in to the forum, then you'll see all sorts of ads. Are you folks who are having problems logged in to your forum account when viewing these threads?

yes, I was logged in.

The adverts appear to have now disappeared (hopefully for good)

Just logged in (UK, 21:30) and the ads appear to have gone, although when I logged in I did get a message saying ‘server down’ to begin with - not something I’ve seen for a while. Something has changed, for the better imo.
Well boys and girls (do any girls use this forum😂?) I guess we may have to open our wallets to keep this rather excellent, informative and at times entertaining forum financially sound, assuming Jerk has had words with the ad provider. I for one don’t have a problem with this, and I’m sure the usual suspects won’t either.

Implementing this sort of thing is often harder than it appears, so please give Jerk a bit of slack over this ... the background systems running a website are more complicated than they appear on the surface!

Back in the day there used to be an ad service that gave options for their size / content, which worked better than Google adserve. They've probably been swallowed by a corporation now, but maybe there's a modern equivalent. The alternative would be finding companies to "partner" with, so you have ads that are more static which gives greater control, and works better for niche small companies too - for example Horizons Unlimited has a small ad on every page for hygiene stuff that's specifically made for long-distance travelers.

As per what I said before, I'd be up for a modest donation / membership setup too :)

I'd love to hear from you! Please post up a new Topic if you think its something that myself and others would like to comment on.

We seem to have most of the new user registration issues and performance issues behind us, but I'm always looking for new ways to improve the user experience here.

As always, thanks for your involvement in the community!

The site was down (for me) yesterday. Now this is what all posts look like.

Since this last hiccup I've noticed quite a few times that when i try to edit a post, i get several minutes into some in depth reply (probably more than anyone needs to hear) and i fat finger something and the unsent reply is just gone.

Previously i could just refresh the page and happily continue knowing that a draft of my post was auto-saved for just such an occurrence.

Is this auto-saving of unposted drafts gone for good?

I just noticed that i don't have the blue "Preview post" button anymore.

I found it useful for proofreading before posting. Some forums even have spell check when you preview.

Can't See Hypertext Link When Hovering:

I'm not positive, but I think this is a recent change. When I'm viewing a page with a link in it, the link shows up in blue, e.g.:

with link.png

However, if I hover my mouse -- not clicking on it yet, just hovering -- over that link, the link changes color to the same color as the background, rendering it invisible while the mouse is positioned there, e.g.:

hover.png

This is on a Mac desktop, running Firefox, with Preferences set to "Style: Default style."

Is this just a personal problem I have, or a recent change, or the way it's always been (and I just noticed it)?
