I got a quote from donowyn for their stays. $345 delivered! Oh well. Back to the decision process. For $345 I will buy a welder and take some lessons. :)
Yeah, a rip off. The price I saw might have been 5500 rupees, but that's still just $ 79. So apparrently there is one price in India and a higher price everywhere else. Too bad - those flip down racks are nice.

The Zana racks are pretty good value for money, but then the OEM ones on Ebay are pretty close to the same price. The Zana racks are pretty sturdy. They suffered a deep gash on the horizontal part when I went down among some rocks, but they did not bend.

I really like what you have done. The RE embellishments really set it apart. Are the extra brackets to support the top rack a kit or something you fabbed up? how are they mounted to the top rack?
Fabbed up. Here's a link to my post on advrider when I did it . I tried to recreate the post in the tech section here for future reference but it complained about it being over 1000 characters. I'll probably end up making an aluminum plate for under the rear box at some point just to make the mounting more rigid.

Had my tusks for a year now, be aware that the powder coat is super thin and will wear off if you travel with a dry bag or such riding on top. I had to repaint mine, then put a couple coats of auto clear coat on it. That probably won't hold up either if you travel off road with a bag moving around on top.

Yeah I’ve had the large ones on my AT for couple years (with a new desert tan powder coat finish from the start) and my son had them on his KLR for years.

Even though I like other panniers better it’s just hard to justify the cost when the Tusk ones are such a deal. The medium Tusks like I used on the Himalayan also weigh less that the OEM RE panniers, another reason I went with them. Probably hard to tell but I did several clear satin coats over the Tusk glossy black ones for the Himalayan.
I did notice the addition of the panniers reduced top speed by about 5mph on the Himalayan but I guess that’s to be expected with a 25HP bike.

That is one awesome setup you have going. I like those Panniers. Went to the site, how wide are those and when you say medium, what funny model name are those? Thanks.
They are Tusk medium panniers, not Happy Trails. Just the mounting kit is Happy Trails. Cheapest place for the panniers now is eBay. Mine have several coats of satin clear coat over the normally gloss finish.

Lol, totally spaced that reading it. I have to admit I like the happy trails also. I am more in search of a smaller aluminum top box for a reasonable price. The search is on. I really like the Givi one, seems to be the right size but too much cash for me. Thanks again... I really need to learn to absorb and pay attention to what I read.

I like Oldscool! So I have the RE Pannier Racks but use Pony-Express Saddlebags by Fox Creek Leather. Occasional I have their Small Tool Bag for the front forks and their FCL Bag (like a "Bed Roll") to hold an extra layer of Rain/Cold gear. Their Leathers are solid craftsmanship! Black is also available...

Those look good. I'm not willing to pay the price of admission into fox creek leathers though. :)

I understand. I used to think they were over priced until I compared their construction and leather quality choices with other competitors. It is heavier leather than most and yet the same price as certain name brands which are selling inferior leather but charging you for the branding.

The best thing about this group is our variety of tastes all with the same bikes!

Having Fun enjoying your style! That's what it is...

Oh I agree that they are high quality and look fantastic. If I bought those my wife would steal them to use on her horse! :)

So, I broke down and ordered the RE pannier racks. I like that they move the turn signals and when I saw folks adding an additional LED brake like on the bar between the turn signals I was sold.

Oh I so get that. I see my Hima as my modern horse. So does my wife, so I'm safe lol! She expected to see leather saddlebags. Sheep rug in the seats is next because horse hide is hard to find... If I could add a pommel, I would, but now we're talking unnecessary weight in a low power bike already towing a bear!
