Himalayan Panniers and Set Ups

Ok so first impressions of the Lomo panniers. These things seem well made and cavernous. I got my one man tent, four season sleeping bag, inflatable Alpkit sleeping mat and cooking stuff all in one pannier with room to spare. After trying the spaciousness of them I removed all the gear and fitted them to my Himalayan. They take a little bit of figuring out to fit. Ran the first thin velcro step under the main seat and the other through the grab handles and under the pillion seat. Then the main strap over the top of the pillion seat. Next I fitted the supplied straps to tie the bags to the pannier racks (mine are the stock Royal Enfield ones for the Himalayan). I may swap these out for something else yet (maybe for some short bungee straps I have) They are quite long and have to be wound around the rack bars a few times before tying up. All in all the panniers seem good. Won't know for sure though until I ride the bike with them loaded. Bit worried they may sag closer to the exhaust when fully loaded. Time will tell on that one. Here's a few pictures of the panniers fitted to the bike. Lomo service was exemplary and I'd have no hesitation recommending their products to other people. I have one of their 20L dry bags and it's a great piece of kit. Hopefully these panniers will be too.

I posted this on the Adv forum also: Have a question for you folks over in the UK who might have put a set of LoMo soft panniers on the Himma. I purchased a set and am having trouble tying them down. The issue is the bags being secure in the vertical axis, the rear area being the problem. There is no where to run a strap from the one eyelet on the rear bottom to somewhere on the bike to keep the bags from moving upward. It might not be a problem at all when actually using the bags on a highway, but I bought the bags for offroad use and see the bags shifting up and forward when popping over a berm or bouncing over a rocky area. I have the factory pannier racks installed. Anyone have a very secure way of tying down these bags?

Where did you get the mount to re-locate the tail light? Is that part of the Happy Trails rack mount kit? I was just thinking of some way to get the tail light out from under my new LARGE carry rack from Hitchcocks because with my big KLR bag on top, you can hardly find the tail light.

I purchased a set of used Giant Loop panniers and love them. Use them for daily errands as well as off-road adventures. I was on a rental Himalayan in Vietnam in Feb-Mar 2020 and it came with GIVI hard cases, 22 litres per side. I added a 20 litre waterproof soft bag over the pillion and it was a pretty good set up. I like the GIVI hard cases, waterproof, solid, easy on-off, and GIVI makes mounting racks for the Royal Enfields.

Note...those front side bags from Hitchcock's are pretty handy on a trip as well.

I already had a set of Andy Strapz Avduro soft panniers when I bought the Himalayan, so I ordered the bike with the RE factory pannier frames.
The bags fitted on, but it wasn't perfect. The fit of the RE pannier frames to the bike was completely sub standard. (there's a thread on here dedicated to the ill fitting frames)

2 weeks ago I decided to fix everything.

After removing the factory RE pannier frames I discovered why they didn't fit properly and and why I could never align them by loosening the bolts and trying to twist them. The frames were manufactured wrong. The lower mount bends are all wrong, as is the welding of the tubes that the bolts go through. Good stuff RE, love your quality control.

Had to slice all these, then I was able to twist the frames and align them to the bike. The bolts now go in relatively easy and the frames sit square and centred on the bike.

To suit my Andy Strapz panniers better, my frames needed to be taller. The top section was lopped off and a 45mm machined spacer inserted. The bike's rear rack was never practical for me. Too small, and too high above seat level which made my pannier straps sit funny. A custom rear rack was fabbed from scratch. Dunno if this is a good idea, but we welded the new rack to the pannier frames. It's now all joined as one unit.

Added thin flat steel cross braces to the pannier frames. Now I have the option to bolt some plastic cases to the frames when not running the soft bags.

Test fit looks good. Fab guy cut a new mount for the tail light which will sit next to the blinkers on that weird RE box bracket thingy.
Will install the lights properly once the rack is back from the powder coaters.

Great Job. I can tell that a lot of thought has gone into the concept. Definitely worth doing. If you don’t mind me asking how much did all the fabrication work cost you?
Did you buy the rack from a dealer or eBay supplier?

Total fab cost was $550, but the welder/fab guy is a work colleague so I got a good deal. I supplied all the steel which was about $25 (managed to get some off cuts) I couldn't source any tube that was the same diameter as that used for the factory RE pannier frames, it's an odd size about 18mm. I needed that for the four 45mm spacers to extend the frames. A local engineering shop charged me $70 to make these. It's a bit crazy getting a fitter and turner to machine a copy of cheap Indian tube out of solid bar, but it needed to be done!

The factory RE pannier frames were bought with the bike. I had the dealer supply and fit them before I picked up the bike.

Greetings everyone. New guy here. Just looking for some ideas on how to best secure my Kuryakyn Torke panniers to the factory RE Himalayan racks. I had a catastrophic failure with the right bag where it fell down on top of the muffler and melted. The company graciously replaced them but I don't trust their mounting system. Some sort of shelf system that attaches to the bottom of the rack would be ideal then I could use straps to secure them. I can't find anyone that makes anything like that though. Thanks!

I have the RE frames on order, and was going to get the RE aluminum panniers, but these caught my eye and considering the price, $89, I think I'm going to give them a try... The only bad reviews appear to be from people who don't know what they are doing, all the other reviews are good...



For another $59 you can get the matching duffle that you can also use for other things besides motorcycle luggage.

I have some RockBros panniers for my touring bicycle and recumbent trike - love them, great price, and have held up well through the use and slight abuse.

I looked into using ammo can for the rears, but the weight stopped me....Im going with Medium Tusk with RE racks

[/QUOTE I fitted this a wile ago an in a matter of weeks my rear rack was gone. Thought is was going to las a lot. But unfortunately was to heavy. Not a good idea for the amo box... Also tried a bigger one butt I desist the idea LoL...
