Himalayan Panniers and Set Ups

Oh I so get that. I see my Hima as my modern horse. So does my wife, so I'm safe lol! She expected to see leather saddlebags. Sheep rug in the seats is next because horse hide is hard to find... If I could add a pommel, I would, but now we're talking unnecessary weight in a low power bike already towing a bear!
I wish I would have had a handy phone camera back then, but in 1984 we were eating dinner at Kay's Coach House on Main Street in Daytona Beach and this lady pulled up on her Harley Davidson with a real Horse saddle fastened onto the bike for her seat. Even if I would have had a camera the inlaws would have thought I was taking a photo of the leather hot pant clad rider instead of the bike. LOL!

Has any one with the RE panniers have a problem with the rivets falling out? I took one of mine off today to lube and adjust the chain and noticed one was missing. Good thing I noticed before I drove in the rain, that’s the side I keep my laptop in 😮. I’ll have to find a small bolt and nut and some aluminum washers to fill it with at some point.

Why not go to Harbor freight, buy a rivet gun and replace the missing rivet with a rivet? Their pretty cheap.

I have 2 rivet guns, they are just 2000 miles away in my tool box. I don’t like buying tools to throw away and I’m not carrying one around with me for the next 2 weeks.
I might do that when I make it back to where I’m living, I just need to do something to keep the water out of it.

Didn't realize you were out on the road. 😉

No problem, it’s weird that’s not even the side I dropped it on yet. I noticed it after a bunch of washboard roads in Death Valley so maybe it rattled away.

Maybe the bikes just too big for me.

Gorilla Tape?
I used all my tape putting my rain pants back together. I have some electrical tape maybe that’ll work.

Bubble gum?
I don’t chew gum but maybe I’ll find someone who does.

For now I just moved my clothes and laptop to the other side and switched them with my food since the food stuffs all In ziplock bags. Also the reusable bag from super store fit our panniers perfectly and make getting your stuff in and out easy.

I got in my RE pannier racks and couldn't wait until the weekend to start installing them. Worked on them 2 evenings and got it done.

I did have to do a little tweaking here and there and widen a hole a little to get it to all line up correctly.

I needed a magnifying glass to read the tiny instruction sheet that came with the racks. :)

I knew that the turn signals would be relocated, but I didn't recall reading that it came with a bracket to relocate the brake light. The bracket moves the light back several inches to give it more visibility. I did have to bend it a little to get the light sitting correctly (parallel to the ground)

The $22 saddlebags fit well on the rack. Sorry, no photos at this time. Phone died on me so was in the house on the charger.

I will probably pop a few tiny holes in the rear trim of the saddlebags for zip ties, or if I am feeling ambitious, sew in some of those Velcro cable ties.

Weird mine didn’t come with a bracket to relocate the tail light.
It also didn’t come with instructions or the hardware bolts. I got the bolts a month later after waiting a month for the racks and panniers to show up. They were gonna be a Christmas present to my self and ended up being a early February gift.

Interested to see how the soft bags look and work out. Where did you get them from?

I ended up with the same bags kiwiscoot has on his bike when he is doing light work. Got mine from Amazon. I took some photos last night but forgot to upload them from my phone. Relocating the brake light makes it more visible from an angle instead of it being deep in the bike.

Hardware and turn signal wiring extension were included with mine but no tail light re location bracket, I think that's an update. Mine were in the first batch brought in. That was August-September of last year.

mine came direct from india. The instructions indicated that the tail light relocatin is required in india and the EU.

I would be interested in seeing the brake light relocation bracket my OEM pannier rails didn't come with one because of my trailer hitch I had to relocate the license plate so I purchased a bracket and light from fleebay 20190511_112603.jpg

It has the same connection points, just moves the light assembly back.
I have my bags just like you with the side pockets facing forward, but the bags are more forward than yours. I fit the cross straps under the seats. The front nylon cross strap goes under the back of the front seat(just in front of the seat lock), the centre canvas strap just behind the seat lock under the back seat and the back nylon strap under the grab handles and under the back of the back seat. That way the bags are locked to the bike and far enough forward for the stop light and indicators to be visible from the back side. They stay on my bike for my daily commute. They really are value for money and have done about 9000 kms without any visible wear apart from fading because of the sun. I think they sort of go with the pack horse :Dlook of the bike.

So, your Zana racks must be further forward. If I had known that, I may have gone that way since I will never carry a passenger.

Received my Lomo panniers today. Have yet to fit them to my Himalayan, but they look great. Will hopefully fit them tomorrow after work. Will put up pictures and first impressions once they are on.
On a side note. Hats off to Lomo for outstanding customer service. The first pair arrived and had a small problem. Emailed Lomo and they got a replacement pair out to me in less than 24 hours. Great people to deal with.
