So the Bridgestone BT46 seems the popular choice. Anyone try different sizes? Up here in canyonland, I like a little more meat on the tarmac on all my bikes.

Honestly I've been wondering how much handling will improve if I were to lace a 2.5" wide rim to my rear hub so I could run a 120 width rear tire.

Looks to me like I could reuse the spokes and lace a spare front rim to my rear hub. Front rims are on ebay for as low as $95.....

If anyone spots a good deal on a spare wheel set please let me know.

My Interceptor has about 5600 miles on it now, and the stock tires are absolutely shot, with the rear being almost smooth through the center section. The front is a bit 'better', but needs to be replaced asap.

Happily, I have a fresh pair of Bridgestone BT46's leaning against the garage wall ready to be spooned onto those rims, which will happen next week.
Did you wear out the new BT46 tires yet? I have a set to put on my RE 650 INT.

I'm on my second set of BT46s. I left a review in Equipment and Gear. I went with stock sizes both times.

On another forum, I've read that the 110/90 front is too close to the fender. If you want more rubber on the ground when leaned over go with a 110/80 up front, and a 140/70 on the rear. Although, the last time I checked, the 110/80 seems to have disappeared from the catalog listings.

Something else to consider is that width and aspect sizing are not standardized. One company's 100 won't be the same size as another company's 100.

And (at less when I was selling m/c tires) the difference between an H rated tire, and a V rated tire might only be the depth of the tread. The shallower tread could be spun faster. That was over twenty ago. I'm sure a lot has changed since then.

For anyone that doesn't know the difference, H rated can handle speeds way above and beyond what any RE 650 can ever do/requires. V is a total waste of money for any form of RE 650.

Regarding my riding and terrain, I don't worry about straight line, highway, super-high speed or cruising. I'm leaned over most of the time. It's about getting a little more rubber on the ground. I may top out at 80 mph in short bursts.

Glad it see the size hasn't been discontinued. I thought about going up to those sizes this time around, just for a little extra insurance, but the big distributors didn't show them.

I've never dragged the pegs on this bike, but I used to bevel the pegs all the time.

I've cornered far enough to lightly scuff the tires to the edge, but I think that was only when I felt the tires slipping. Normally I've got an 1/8" left on the sides of the front, and 1/2" on the rear. Maybe not enough for a serious mistake, but it's worked so far.

Same here, I've just finished breaking the new BT46's in. A big improvement over the stock CEAT tyres, the bike feels more planted, and turns in nicely. No grip issues on our cold wet roads.

So everyone agrees that they are great tires, but to be truly great tires, they have to last too. I tried BT 45s on my Triumph Bonneville and 4500 miles they were to the wear bars. I am hoping for more out of my BT 46s on my RE 650 INT.

The original CEAT tyres I replaced had loads of tread left, possibly good for another 5000 miles. I prefer grip and feel to longevity. If I get 5000 miles out of the BT46 I'll be a happy bunny.

I don't think you would be happy with 5000 miles if you rode 20,000 miles a year like I do. :)

In my opinion (and backed by my own purchases), the tires for high mileage riders who also want the high modern performance ... 90/10 tread paterns are the way to go. Even 80/20s grip like a monkey on meth. They last a long time. Run smoothly and quietly. Available in most major brands.

You are correct, I used Avon Trailriders on my NC750X. They are great tires and got good mileage out of them. I think around 8000 miles if I remember correctly.

Prior to the pandemic I would cover around 15000 miles a year but my miles have always been split between two or three bikes. I still prefer grip to extended tyre life, there has to be some trade off, I accept the cost as just being part of the price I pay for my hobby.

I have Avon TrailRiders on my RE650, V-strom 1000 and my recently sold ST1300.
I had Avon Trail Riders fitted to my Yamaha XTZ1200 Super Tenere and BMW R100GS, great tyres, good grip on wet and dry roads and adequate for the easy trail riding I did. Got about 5k from the Yam and over 6k from the BMW, never had to replace them as I sold the bike.

1900 on the clock and the CEAT's really dont inspire confidence, tendencey to slightly wobble or shimmy 60+. So despite plenty of tread on them booked in to have Bridgestone BT46's fitted in a couple of weeks.
I agree. I just switched to Metzler lasertec tires. I nice improvement. Made the bike into a fun bike to ride.
