Looks like the battery may be shot

I've been having to keep the bike on a battery tender constantly or it doesn't want to start. Had to take an alternate bike for a ride Saturday because it didn't fire on the first try and didn't have enough juice for the 2nd try.

Yesterday I got out the voltmeter and with a fully charged battery it read 12.45 volts. Then I turned on the key and since our bikes don't have the headlight on a relay to keep it from coming on until after the bike is running, the voltage dropped to approximately 11 volts. When I hit the starter the voltage dropped to 7 volts but luckily the bike fired up.

With the bike running the voltage showed 14.3 volts. I rode the bike 80 miles and during that 80 miles I shut if off maybe 3 times. One time was for 20 minutes while I ate breakfast. Fired up every time.

When I got home I shut it off and got out the voltmeter again. At rest the battery showed a little over 13 volts and when I hit the starter dropped to 9 volts and fired up.

I let the bike rest for several hours without connecting to the battery maintainer, and went to start it again and it dropped to 3 volts when I hit the starter.

I will call the dealer today, but I did read in Royal Enfield's OM that any warranty on the battery has to come from the battery manufacturer so we will see.

Mine has the same problem after 7 months and almost 10000km. The Indian Varta batteries seem to be cheap stuff. I don't want another one of these so I am thinking of a Yuasa too. It's more trouble getting stuck somewhere or missing a beautiful ride than buying a good battery on my own budget.
