Hello Maineiacs, hot tip for registration: The system the town offices use to register bikes with the BMV is called TRIO, in that database there is no "Royal Enfield", it's in there as "ROEN". I just saved you 10 minutes they would have used to call the BMV help line.

I'm curious if any other Himalayan riders have dual registered as an ATV and if so where you placed your ME ATV sticker? Every state has different regs, and in Maine, ATVs are supposed to place it front and rear as high as possible, but we don'[t have a lot of real estate for that on the Himalayan tail with racks mounted, tons of room on my hard cases but I'm likely to take them off for trails. Just curious where you put your stickers?

In NY, we just have the annual inspection sticker. Typically, it goes onto and around one of the lower fork legs.

Yeah, we have inspection stickers for the street plate too, those actually go on the plate and are tiny. I'm talking about the offroad sticker we need for trail access, we can dual register here as a motorcycle and also an offroad ATV which gets it's own larger sticker and reg numbers (it's kinda silly but it's just how we do it here). I went with the high front fender and then found there was room on the factory rear rack cross brace for the rear sticker, I don't know why the little flat sheet metal part is in the middle but it does make a nice place for the ATV sticker.

I spoke with a Game Warden at their office in Gray and he went to his supervisor to answer my question about that. He came back and told me I DO NOT need an ATV sticker on my bike as long as it is street legal and all the taxes and fees are paid.

When I went to resister my 2019 it took three town clerks and over an hour. There didn't seem to be anything in the system for Royal Enfield after 1986. Finally they just made up a vin registration, kind of like the Hot Rod registrations. When I renewed the next year the system had caught up and I haven't had an issued with either of my bikes since.

I've heard enough accounts of wardens telling folks otherwise that I figured I'd just get the sticker to be safe, worst case scenario I just donated $75 to IFW for trails which I don't really mind. From what I understood it's still required for riding on places that say "no motorcycles" because once you're registered as an ATV, you're not a "motorcycle" when you need to not be for trail access, kind of like having a passport for two countries. Entirely possible that I have this wrong, I think not all the wardens are on the same page too, which doesn't help anyone

good point. many times one cop says the opposite of another cop's statement. I went through the ATV/trail riding statutes and it was like the Handbook for the Recently Deceased.
