My first brush with the Scram

mpp1

Well travelled
Location
Gujarat, India
Hi all
I'm from Gujarat, India and I just posted my initial reaction to the new Scram 411 that I experienced yesterday, the original post from the Scram sub-forum:

I just took a short test ride of the Scram at my local showroom, color me impressed. Loved the torquey engine and the nimble handling. Before today's ride, I had only ridden the Himalayan for a 3km ride.
So this kind of engine/riding position/ground clearance combo is perfect for the riding conditions like India with broken roads, no roads and smooth tarmac in between.
The long stroke mill loves to rev and the gear shifts are pretty smooth. I rode on all kinds of roads during the brief ride and I loved how the suspension handled my 110kg frame over the worst broken roads that you can imagine, it also excelled on smooth tarmac.
Fit and finish is getting better with each new RE bike.
Brakes could be better.
Taller riders would require a wider and higher handlebar right away, I found my hands to be too close to the stock bar and I'm barely 5'11".

Maybe a set of 2" risers could do the trick.

Thanks man ! Loving the pics. It will probably be a year or more before we see one with the eyes here in the USA.

Looks like the Scram uses a different front fender.

Love the Red/White combo, i like all the colour schemes actually, ican see a lot of sales for Scram seats given it sits on the same chassis as the Himmy

Some of the reviews mention a peppier motor !! if it's exactly the same as the Himalayan has it had a fuel flash i wonder ?

Thanks for posting, very interesting (y)

RE has worked on the engine so supposedly it runs free than the current Himalayan, incidentally the same state of tune would be on all the new Himalayans shipping from now onwards

I didn't notice but quite possible to differentiate it from the Himmy at first glance.
I'm not sure where exactly would this fit in the US because of its low power, people will still buy the Himmy to go off-road but I think there's quite a few better options for dual use than the Scram especially Japanese ones

Enfields sales in North America
have consecutively increased every year since imports restated in 1995 and continue to do so. Enfield has an under served market segment here all to themselves. Imho the Scram would likely sell enough or more to justify it's place in the lineup.

I'm basing my assumption on this video, also I don't have an extensive riding experience with the Himmy so I'd not be a good judge about the difference between the two. However if this is true and the new Himmys do get the revised mapping, I think that would improve the riding experience of that bike as well:

I enjoyed my brief test ride except for the rider triangle issue I had and I hope they sell for RE's sake, maybe RE's success forces some other brands to offer competing products at similar prices, riders would come out winners

 .. Where does this info come from? RE quote identical HP and Torque figures, @ same RPM, for both Himi and Scram. (IMHO). (23.6 ft.lbs Equals 31.99 N.m)

In general riding sometimes you don't feel peak horsepower, what you feel is how the bike responds to the throttle.
And a bit of fine tuning can liven up the mid range without having any noticeable effect on peak power, perhaps with more responsive ignition and mixture control .
FWIW BMW claimed the same figures for the carbed Funduro and the injected GS, but the injected GS had much better throttle response , it just picked up and flew from anywhere.
I imagine a Hime with a claimed 50 hp would do something similar , with the correct software!

I think so too, BTW rumors are that RE is working on a new 450cc engine for the Himmy and then eventually a 650cc one with the interceptor engine

Both are reasonable.
RE has gotten REALLY good at keeping information secret since 2014 and even better at it since 2017 so confirmation either way and details aren't gonna be gettable like before.
