New Himmy coming - the 450

It makes sense. One market segment in India that Enfield is glaringly absent from is the high zoot fancy pants 400-ish segment. Bajaj and KTM have most of that to themselves for now.

If I had wanted a KTM 390 bike then that is what I would have bought.
It looks quite high tech with ride by wire and more electronic gizmos. Will suit some but not all and it will have a totally different flavour to the current 411.
No doubt the reviews will be very positive as there is more power but I wonder if it will have the chug along abilities of the 411?

Based on RE's past, I have to disagree, hear me out.

They produced the old Iron Barrel engine and it's "replacement" the newer AVL Lean burn engine at the same time for ten years. Production of both of those overlapped with the Unit Construction Engine (which replaced them both) for a year.

Imho the 410 and 450 Himalayans will be sold side by side. The 410 as the standard and the 450 as the ( more costly) next tier upscale machine.

One thing we've seen for sure is Enfield wrings every Rupee worth of return out of their investments in R&D and tooling before scrapping it.

Also worth mentioning is early on in the Himalayan Enfield had CS Santosh on the payroll.

IF Enfield has a quiet eye on the Raid De Himalaya, the Ecco or Dakar they'll need a rider like Santosh and a works version of something Enfield but more competitive than the LS Himalayan to do and do it right.

It may well be the Scram will carry the 411 engine and the Himi will be about the 450. But I take Eatmore Mudd's point. RE is a corporation and so far, they have a terrific and visible mid-term plan to make money -- other than the after sales support as we also know. It is all going to be interesting. They are a dynamic corporation. And being a domestic Indian producer allows them leeway to put each engine in several trims and still make money on each volume run at low price point. Perhaps the downside for us in the export market is that we are almost an afterthought. They don't need us to make money even though our money is nice to have and may be the long-term vision.

We shall see in due time. I went out and got my Himalayan before the 24 model year because I didn't know what they were going to do even though it was a tad sooner than I had planned. I knew I didn't want that 450 though. You guys may be right about the line up. I also think it would be cool to have the 350 and 450 Himmy's and leave the 411 for the Scram. IMHO that would seperate the SCRAM and Himmy more so.

I'm not planing on buying another bike unless I have a castrastrophic failure or accident on my present one. I'm satisfy with my present Himalayan for what she does, even though sometimes I wish she had a few more ponies. Still curious about this new version. My analogy. Just because I'm married, doesn't mean I can't admire a beautiful woman when I see one.
