Noisy front suspension

Getting there...
My 2019 C500 makes a noise on the front suspension that sounds like a light metallic rattle. It only happens when the forks are being compressed, making me think it's internal to the shocks. I removed the headlight and checked for anything loose that would rattle in there but found nothing. At first, I thought it might be the speedometer drive, but why would it only happen when the forks compress? I took it to the nearest dealership recently, and they said the headset bearing needed adjustment. The bike was new to me and under a 30-day purchase warranty from another shop. They covered 80% of the repair price, and I covered the rest. When I picked up the bike the steering sure felt better, some of the rattle noise was gone (I guess some of it was the bearing), but not all. The rattle is still there. I will see if I have it on a video to post here. Has anyone encountered such a rattle under compression? The suspension works fine, it only sounds rattly...

wouldn't be the springs as they are compressed must be something loose
It could be if one spring is broken, but I would have handling issues. I have been paying better attention and moving the bike while on the stand, trying to hear the noise, and now it seems it might be under or inside my fuel tank. Tonight after work, I will remove the tank to explore that possibility.

I found this video about a clunking sound coming from the evap canister after the bike is warm. Come to think of it, my clunking sound is more prominent when it's warm, although I don't have the idling/tick over issues the guy in the video had. Nonetheless I will be exploring this possibility and might just remove the evap system altogether.
