Occasional popping on deceleration

Good day everyone,

Just a quick question For those with a bike that has the 650CC parallel twin engine.

does anyone else notice an occasional exhaust popping on deceleration, if you snap the throttle closed?

Ive noticed this on my SM650 when the engine is thoroughly warmed up. It’s subtle and doesn't happen all the time.

I had this issue on my ‘02 Bandit 1200, and corrected it with an adjustment to the idle air screws on the carburetors.

My SM650 has about 300 miles and I’m going to run through the first service this weekend. Anything in the service I should look at that would affect this? I’m thinking that with the fuel injected engine there's not much I can do that would affect this behavior.

thanks,

Dave

My Interceptor, I think not though I have a vague memory it did it once when new. The valves were done at first service and they were described as slightly tight. The Bullet pops more often and I have only done 300 miles. But I am inclined to believe the Bullet will do its own thing until the extended run-in period is over. I am paying to have the valves checked at first service on that bike too.

My Interceptor has done 5500 miles and still burbles ocasionally on the over run. I quite like it, very reminiscenmt of old Brit bikes.
I really enjoy the burble when I drop it back into fourth or third, particularly fourth from higher speed. And if I am going past a group, always gets attention so must sound even better to the side.
