Oil Leak - Shotgun 650: Help Diagnose

Thanks guys. From the location of the leak, it seems to be in the area of where the stator wires exit the stator cover (thanks @Dool2). Researching online, oil seep from stator wire grommets is apparently a rather common issue. It seems the “fix” is to clean the area around the grommet with a solvent, then apply a layer of RTV sealant around the grommet. Or, I’ll take it to the dealer (it’s still under warranty), but that’s a 3 hour round trip and another 3 hour round trip to pick it up. Ah, the joys of motorcycling…

It’s worth checking the crank case breather isn’t blocked up with gunk, especially if it’s cold where you live as the oil/air vapour can form an emulsion that fills the pipe up. This can cause excess crankcase pressure which could force oil to follow the path of least resistance - often the stator wiring grommet.

Leaking Oils is Proof of a Soul surely.
It teaches the rider to actually check the crankcase oil level for fear of running it dry therefore making for a fuller motorcycling experience
Obviously I didn't use AI to write this:ROFLMAO:

All the bikes I liked best leaked or seeped oil.
All the other bikes I had didn't.
That's a heck of a coincidence.
Any more I take it as a good omen.

YMMV

Don't discount the use of talc, or corn starch for tracking the source of an oil leak. Pour some into your hand and blow a cloud of dust onto the affected or suspected area and you may be surprised what can be found.

If worried about health risks, simply don't inhale, even run a fan or vacuum cleaner nearby to evacuate excess airborne dust. Spraying a fine mist of water into the air has also been known to remove dust from room air as well. There are also dust filtering masks that can be worn.

Alternatively there are leak detection kits available consisting of a uv visible dye that can be safely added to engine oil, this dye will be visible at the leak area under a black light. Amazon surely will carry them locally.
