Do your homework, the internet is your friend. When I was seriously shopping for my Himmie, I stopped in at 2 dealerships in PA. The Bike was $4,999 sticker . . . 1st delaership was very friendly and willing to work a little. Since I was from out of state and would only need a 10 day temp tag, and they wouldn't be paying the taxes, title and registration, they came down to about $5,900 OTD. The second was ridiculous. They agreed to show me their fee sheet, but I couldn't get a copy of it, couldn't take a picture of it and it is what it is . Their OTD for an out of stater $6,850. GIVE ME AN F'ing BREAK. I told the guy that - his answeres - We don;t want you taking a copy of this to other dealers and having them beat the price (Uh dude, that's how the game is played). And regarding the $1,950 in fees - "Hey, these aren't $30,000 Harleys, we have to make a profit somewhere . . ." Yeah, that dealership was also a Harley dealership - I told him if they don;t like the profit margin in selling $5,000 motorcycles, they shouldn't be in the business of selling $5,000 motorcycles and walked away.
After that I hit the internet and reached out to dealers within 500 miles of me who had Himmies in stock. Told them I wanted a no BS OTD price, if they were out of state I told them I didn't need the title and registration just a temp transit tag so I could ride home. Heard back from Charleston Triumph and North Ridge Custom Cycles in Charleston, SC. They offered $5,700 OTD - I countered with $5,250, They came back at $5,300 . . . I made a deposit the nest day, booked a flight and booked the first service with them for the day after I picked it up. So with their much more reasonable price, I bought the bike, bought a plane ticket, got to ride the bike a lot in the first week so I knew I really liked it, and with the extra money I have put a slew of extras on it including RE hard bags, GIvi engine guards, hand guards, Hitchcock front bags, Enfield Accessories Pro Mount and a bunch of other stuff and I don't think I am up to the ridiculous price that the PA Harley/RE stealer wanted for the naked bike.
So bottom line, use the internet find a better deal than the local only game in town. I did a similar thing when I bought my Voyager 10 years ago. Found the best price within a 500 mile radius. I took that price to the "only game in town" and they tried to hem and haw about how I needed to fly there and ride it back so the price was actually more than theirs - But when you explain that a plane ticket is only $50-100, and the ride is a ride and is actually appealing to you . . . They saw the light and matched that price OTD . . . be firm, be fair, be thorough . . .
