Hi All, newby here :)

I need a new tyre for my 2018 Himi - and may have made a rookie mistake.

I looked in the manual and it says to get a 120/90 - 17 sized tyre. So, got a Mitas E-07 in that size.

When it arrived I thought that that looks a bit narrow....

Had a look on the bike and it currently has K60 Scouts sized 130/80 - 17

So, the fitted tyres are wider and less height...

Can I fit the new one sized according to the manual - or do I need to get the same size as fitted?

There isn't much in it between 120/90 and 130/80 in terms of the actual size of the tyre, both are very much compatible with the Himalayan. 130/80 is the smallest you'll get most 80/20 tyres so if you want Michelin Anakee Adventures, Metzeler Karoo Streets or Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs that's what size you'll have to fit. That said I tend not to deviate from manufacturer spec if I can so 120/90 tyres will do me!

For use on hard pack gravel roads and tracks a narrower tire sometimes finds a bit more traction.
Grip is a function of pressure and contact area, and sometimes the increased pressure of the narrower tire cuts through the loose stuff on top a bit better
Not in mud/ deep sand of course.
Hope you like the E07, they last me twice as long as most so you will have them a long time.
Put around 250,000 km on them on a BMW R80 G/ S - when I could get them.
When I couldn't Metzeler Enduro 3 Sahara are similar but just a little better in every way, front in particular feels just a little more planted.
But the 3's can be hard to get too!

when I went to mitas site they didn't offer the 120/90 so I had to order 130/90. fits fine.
