Servicing schedule/intervals

I have both the Interceptor and the Scram , totally different engines but the same schedule of valve checks at ridiculously short intervals, not really a pain to do and Can be done in 30-45 minutes but never the less still short intervals.

I was under the impression that after the initial 300 mile service when the valve clearances are checked, the next check is at 6000mls, and every 6k thereafter. I don't find that too unusual as my previously owned BMW airheads, and Moto Guzzi Stelvios were 6000 mile intervals, as are those on my current Moto Guzzi V85tt. These were/are all screw and locknut adjustment, rather than the shim and bucket type on more modern and higher revving bikes.

Valve checks on both my Scram and Inteceptor are 3k Or Every 12 months regardless if you’ve reached the 3 k or not, that’s what my manual says
The plot thickens......Not 3K, but 4.6K....
From RE's UK INTERCEPTOR web pages - April 2023 - 4.6K miles!
And note the double asterisk. Which seems ridiculous.
(**) - After First service, Valve clearance adjustment is a mandatory at every 12 months even the vehicle has not cov-
ered the specified km
.

3K??? Are you sure? Mine is a '22 650 Interceptor and the manual clearly states 6000 mile intervals. Could there be a difference between global region or model years? I wouldn't think so.
Yes - That is what the USA download says. And the UK Euro4 (2018) said likewise.

My manual states every 6000 miles as well. My supplying dealer was happy to perform the 3000 mile service (the bike had covered approx 2500mls IIRC) at the one year/annual interval without valve checks. He agreed with me that clearances only alter with mileage not time.

My Dealer INSISTED that the valve checks were done at 3000 miles. I argued the case, and never returned back to the dealer... I'm going to embark on doing the service myself, although the valve check looks tricky..

Have seen several videos on valve checks and adjustments it's something I may attempt but not really sure right now.
This video shows how!

Flabbergasted by the differences in manual instructions relative to valve clearance for the same engine. I'm looking at the physical paper back manual that came with the newly purchased 2022 bike. Why the USA download would be different I don't know. I could see maybe a shorter interval in the introductory 2018 year and then they rationalized probably based on negative feedback that they should up the intervals. for later models... The table is on page 119 in my manual :D. Wonder what 8 pages of stuff I don't need to know!

Consistency would be good.
RE really should employ either some more capable technical authors, or proof readers, or both.

My favorite RE tech manual b*alls-up...

I have bought my first Royal Enfield which I am due to collect in 12 days. Therefore, I have no experience of either servicing bills or doing the servicing myself. However, I understand (please correct me if I am wrong) that when the valves appear on the schedule it is to inspect the valves. I presume that there is little difference in even an inspection requiring a modicum of disassembly?

They take the valve cover off, and the tank and whatever else to get to the valve cover. You want the valve check done as scheduled. And have the bike cold when they do it. Others will chime in. Enjoy. Fabulous machines.

Thank you Woodstock. I intend to do as much of the servcing as possible. My nearest RE dealer is a 2hr ride away and as I have time on my hands I will try to do it myself. I have downloaded the Service Manual.

I've now covered over 300 miles and can see the oil is looking very dark as expected as part of the running in process.
The first service isn't due for another 5 weeks! so just wondering if I should contact the dealer to see if they have any availability to service my bike sooner?
If they are unable to, should I change the oil and filter myself as the state of the oil is only going to get worse!
