SG650 : NO Valve clearance adjustment in 1st Service !!

Getting there...
Hello to everyone from San jose , California.
I got back to riding Motorcycles after 20 years and got myself a Shotgun 650 in drill green.
Completed 300 miles of run in and got the 1st service done.
However The service center did not do the valve clearance adjustment saying that they got a
memo from Royal Enfield that new Shotgun models don't need it anymore .

Has any of you heard anything like this ?? What would be the best way to confirm this?
the dealer could not find the memo when i asked and promised to send it later . but i have not heard from them in a couple of weeks now .

The Bike is running like a dream though . I am in love .

P.S. > here are a couple of clips from my short trips in and around San jose.

Welcome from Colorado.

That is correct. The valve adjustment is no longer done at the first service. I love the look of those bikes with the rear seat removed.

I was told this week no valve adjustment until 6000 miles on a new bike. I am debating it.

What has changed that RE does not recommend a valve inspection at 300 miles anymore? Hmmmm, I don’t know, but I do know that I had my tech inspect them at 300 miles and a couple were a little tight so he adjusted them. I say inspect/adjust just to be on the safe side.

The 1st thing I did was to take that subframe & rear seat Off :D. At least for my 1st summer back to riding , i want to ride solo.
hopefully by next summer, I will be more comfortable with the bike and feel more confident about havving a pilliion.
Hoepfully we would get a good slution for pannier/saddlebag stays also by that time.

I did some reading on the net about the impact of valve clearance being too tight.
It is some serious stuff !!!! it can have very damaging affects .
Since many of you have already found the clearnce to be too tight after run-in , I will also go and get it checked.
Thanks everyone for providing feedback 🙏

Yes, and if anything, they tend to tighten not loosen. If your dealer is going to do it, make sure they do it. I tend to distrust dealers. I am lucky and have an independent guy do all of my work and he is as good as they come.

This is exactly what I‘ve meant. Clearance tends to tighten in the beginning and valves that can‘t close properly might overheat. Maybe many people complained because of the higher service costs, so RE have changed their service specifications. But IMHO that would only make sense, if they also changed their manufacturing process or chose harder material for their valve seats.

I live about 90 miles from the nearest dealer, so will plan on taking my bike to a local bike mechanic that I've used for years. Does the owners manual provide the vale adjustment specs ?

Visited the San Jose dealership service centre and got the valve clearance adjusted. They adjusted it to be in spec. . I am attaching the notes mentioning the final values 8 mm intake and 18 mm exhaust1000027590.jpg
