Super Meteor "checkbatt" Displayed

2024 SM with 4600 miles has "chebatt" displayed intermittently on odometer. Bike was doing this awhile back and cleaning/tightening battery terminals and grounds temporarily made code disappear. Another tightening of battery connections did not help. I'm concerned it's the voltage regulator, but resting battery voltage is good and charging voltage at battery is also good. Concerned bike will strand me. Has anyone had any experience with this?
 
My SM 650 had been doing this since last October. It was used throughout winter months, originally thought it might be tied to cold weather but is still doing it now. Have gone through checking and rechecking terminals and ground points and also voltages as well and have found nothing indicating an Issue. I am still running stock battery as there has been no other indication of battery Issue apart from the message on the bike itself.
I am considering swapping out battery, but that’s not likely to be for a few months yet.
I have ended up considering it a quirk of my bike just now as it’s not caused me an Issue in several months of message appearing.

Interesting. Do you keep the battery on a maintainer/tender in between rides?

Yep, use a c-tek device and bike is plugged in when it isn’t being used on consecutive days. Bike is used mainly for getting to work which is a 40 mile round trip

Hmmm, crazy. I use a c-tek too. It will be interesting to see if the problem goes away after you install a new battery in a few months. Please keep us posted.

I also use a battery tender when not riding for more than 3 days. Resting voltage 24 hours post-ride is 12.9 volts. Also, bike starts instantly.

The ground connection in front of the battery that requires disconnecting to remove battery is suspect. I will eventually solder a better connector there.

If any others are experiencing this "chebat" code, please chime in.
 
Mee ! I've got chebatt. Not painfull, and there's no known remedy :ROFLMAO::unsure::oops:
Mine is still showing that message. Haven’t changed the battery yet as it still seems ok, no Issues starting bike etc.. it’s now been about 12 months since I first got this message starting to appear and I’ve done just over 5,000 miles since that point without any Issues apart from the message
 
One thing which I should pay more attention to is sitting in traffic. I cant remember seeing the message pop up when bike is idling while stuck in road works etc… I’ve only noticed while on the move,

Mine was very frequent while moving, intermitent while standing. After checking batt conections etc, it showed once as I was building the revs, stationary. Turned it all off, put it in garage, went and had a nice cup of tea.
Sod it, I'll ride it till it braeks o_O:unsure::ROFLMAO:
 
I finally fixed it. I had the 'chebat' (check battery) issue for months on my Super Meteor 650, it would pop up on the display every 20 seconds on average.
I believe it's a loose or poor connection issue. A friend had to also fix it.

- I cleaned and sanded battery terminals, used a socket to tighten but not too tight
- there is a black spade connector and a red spade connector in/near the battery compartment (red one has a plastic boot / cover) that both may need pulling apart, cleaning, and using a small screwdriver, make the female end tighter, excuse me.... The connection should be snug. Some white grease from the factory may also need to be cleaned off :)
- Ensure wires going from the battery and loom connect to the starter motor correctly and are tight. The black earth wire from battery should also be checked and perhaps re-seated/cleaned and screwed back into the starter motor housing on the engine block
- fuses near the tool box all pulled, checked and re-seated
- relays under the seat pulled, cleaned, and re-seated. Some white grease may also be cleaned off as there can be excess from the factory
- any other connector you see, pull and re-seat carefully

Pray to the Royal Enny Gods and hit the road for a test

12.9 is excellent. 12.4 is a dice game of whether the starter will fire.

Any water inside the headlight casing that may be playing with sockets meant for after-alternator accessories? IIRC there's a post start relay that powers up the USB and the spares in the headlamp which is an inert circuit pre-start.

RE grease gremlins. Yet again. But not on my terminals or fuses, maybe they didn't feel inclined to use it that day, thankfully.
In my case, the battery failed, ( was manufactured 3 years before fitted to machine ) 21 year stamp, bought m/c in 24. Any way, new batt bought and fitted, using vaseline / electric grease on terminals, tightened terminals with screwdriver, jod sorted. No more chebat. Whoo hoo.
 
I’ve never had the check battery notification, but to insure no surprises, I also have a Koso volt meter wired to the auxiliary circuit in the headlight bucket. The running voltage has never been below 14.

Mine has been doing this. Installed a new battery today. Had them load test the original, and they said it tested fine. Replaced it anyway. It was cold today, so only road about 10 miles, and didn't get the warning. Duracell from batteries plus. Two year warranty, 220 cca. I've used these in the past, and have worked as good as anything else. No stupid loose nuts to deal with either. Got 17% off until St. Patrick day.IMG_1737.jpeg
