Super Meteor rear suspension

Easy Drifter

Finally made it
Location

Just picked up a '24 Super Meteor. While I really like most everything about it, the rear suspension rides like a hard tail...
Shocks are set to the softest setting. I've seen other mentions of this; people have bought the Interceptor for it's softer ride quality.
Has anyone come up with a different option for a softer riding coilover shock for the SM? Does anyone know if the Interceptor 650 rear shocks could be fitted to the SM650?

I'm open for any suggestions as I really believe the original shocks will never soften up to my liking.

My other bikes...Vulcan Drifter and Shadow Phantom are a lot easier on my back.

Heyup from Yorkshire. I bought a new SM650 in March after not having a test ride. I thought what have I done. The rear suspension is a nightmare. I loved everything else about the bike but the suspension was so hard. Anyway I persevered and now 2k miles down the road the suspension has softened and it’s great now. Give it a chance before you start to spend money on alternatives. 👍

I weigh 205 lbs and find position 3 or 4 are the most comfortable. With 900 miles on this great bike, I keep experimenting with between pos 2 or 3.

I can only give my experience (mostly highway at 70+ 280 lb 6'3" rider). Setting one was nice till I hit a expansion strip on a bridge and bottomed out the suspension. setting 4 beat me up, 3 was better, 2 seemed just fine. Mine is a Celestial so touring seat. I am considering a brown version of the original but I would like to do a few more trips with the wife first then maybe a gel cushion.

Heavy riders will bottom out the suspension easlly simply because there isn't much travel. Although it seems counterintuitive, adding preload can give you a smoother ride because you will spend more time riding within the shocks intended operating stroke rather than on the bump stop.
Preload is reversible, nothing to lose.

I also installed the Hagon shocks form Hichcock's but in the standard lenght which is an important upgrade to the RE oem shocks which were too weak for me.
My weight is 107 kg.

Do you mind sharing which type of Hagons did you go with? I'm torn between the Road Shocks and the 2820s.
I also wonder if I go the 2820s that I wont be easily able to access the hex nut adjusting if I install the Long Haul Panniers.
