I’m a new Himalayan owner. I’ve had my 22 for 3 months and 1300 miles. I really don’t know much about this bike.
but I do hear about people breaking down due to relays.
I would like to buy a set of relays to keep on the bike as emergency spares.
from what I have gathered, there are 4 relays on The bike of similar type?
is the 5th a starter relay?
what relays should I get?
‘yes, I have searched around and checked the faq but nothing definitive.

Hichcocks Parts Book (For Future Reference - Not saying you have to buy from them, BUT, they are good, and quick, usually).

Hichcocks Upgraded Relays. - Says EU5 bike requires four.

RELAY, MAIN POWER, FUEL PUMP, FUEL INJECTOR etc (MICRO-5 PIN)

Hi all,

Thanks for posting mrt6644. I was just about to post the relay related question as a new thread when I saw your post. I was getting intermittent starting problems with my Euro 5 and from various posts and YouTube videos I could see that it was the starter relay causing the issue. I also saw that it was possible to source replacement relays for much less than Hitchcocks are charging.

I found these 12V relays online that looked the same fit https://docs.rs-online.com/d193/A700000007295090.pdf and after some more reading of the forums understand that it shouldn’t matter if the amp rating is higher (originals are marked 20A/10A and the replacements I have found are rated up to 90A.

I’ve just replaced the 4 under the seat (starter relay/headlight/side-stand/ecu) and all seems good (I haven’t taken it for a run yet). However, on replacing the starter pump relay behind the right hand side side panel nothing happens i.e. no priming pump sound on switching the ignition. The bike only seems to like the original relays.

Can somebody tell me what the issue is please? Is the resistance of the new relay too high for the starter pump? Will I be ok with the others still? Please feel free to explain in very simple terms 😁 - I have zero knowledge of electrics.

a duff new relay maybe, I guess dead on arrival is possible.

I only swapped the EFI and the ECU relays with 2 of the Hellas bought cheap from amazon on my euro5 tripper bikes. Worked a charm.

Have you tried swapping out the known working new relay on headlight with the fuel pump relay to rule out a duff unit?

Yes, thanks, I've seen that on the Hitchcock site, but what do the two relays on the Euro 4 actually operate?

'Main power, fuel pump, fuel injector, etc' say Hitchcocks but which specifically handles what - does one for instance handle fuel pump and injector and the other ECU and main power, plus sidestand switch? It would be useful to know. I assume the fact that late bikes have four relays mean that they have reduced the number of jobs each does in comparison to the Euro 4.

Fantastic found them on Amazon will order, they are panasonic Japanese so assuming they will will be much better than stock and will keep factory ones as backup. Thanks for quick reply.
