Seats

Getting there...
I tried a seat from Enfield County and it is an improvement, but well short of what I require. I have a December 7 build date from Russell "Day Long" saddles in Northern CA, USA and this should do the job, at an expense with shipping of a bit over $600. Yes, pricey. Yes, first rate quality and comfort. Russell really pays close attention to your build questionnaire and the photos you must send them of you on your bike. They are custom seats and not a "one size fits all" off the shelf seat.

My Honda CB-500 had a totally horrid seat and a Russell seat made it into a long day tripper. See attached photo of Russell seat on my Honda.

Ralph.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, having had my 650 sunset strip Interceptor about two weeks. I initially found the standard seat uncomfortable so I fitted a mesh seat cover, it has made a noticeable improvement. I've also fitted bar risers and the overall improvement to riding position and comfort is very good.
The picture is without the bar risers fitted.

Have you ever thought about taking the stock seat to an upholsterer and have them re-pad it. I had a gel pad and better padding put in my Harley seat, It was $100 bucks plus the gel pad (I bought it).

Can you describe how the mesh cover improves the seat?

I initially replaced the stock seat on my Int with the RE touring seat...noticed a slight comfort improvement.

What sent me to the Corbin site looking for better options was an 11,000 km across the country and back trip last July. The bike performed flawlessly and was a treat to ride on a long trip like that. But, those long days in the RE bench saddle almost destroyed my ass. I picked up an Air-Hawk seat pad around the half-way point and it helped a lot.

But I will not launch a new multi-day long-haul on the Interceptor with the stock or the stock touring seat. 300 or 400 km a day is manageable but if you want to get up into the 600-800 or 1,000 km long-days, you're going to pay with pain.

Looking to order a Corbin this spring. Hope it works out. A friend put one on his Bonneville and loves it.

Years ago a friend let me ride his Norton Commando Interstate with a Corbin Gun Fighter seat. Did about 225 miles on it and was hurting by the end of the ride.
On my Norton Interstate I could at one time do 5 to 600 miles a day. This was with the stock seat. This was years ago when I wore a younger mans clothes, now at 71
I don't have to do those kind of miles.

Take your original seat to an upholsterer and they can add padding/gel/etc.....I did that for my Fatboy and it was cheaper than buying a different one. And I didn't have an extra seat laying around.

as a new owner, I have spent too much time looking at seat options. I found at least three Royal Enfield brand seats - the touring/comfort seat, the single touring seat, the single-seat (not touring?). The single seats appear to differ only in the material used for the cover - the touring being a 'soft touch' fabric. There also appears to be some leather seats. I also found a great video from Stuart Fillingham about Interceptor seats in general and new seat from a company called Tripmachine. I personally do not like the suede but I can understand why they used it.

I am likely going for a single-seat option with a matching cowl - not sure which (touring or not touring) yet. Has anyone tried either of these single seats?

The cover makes the seat slightly wider and higher. It has a mesh depth of about 1/4inch, I feel it gives more support and adds a certain extra 'springiness'. I also have one fitted to my T120 Bonneville standard seat and find that has improved comfort as well. My Interceptor replaced my Honda CB500X, which also had the 'cool covers' mesh seat cover. I believe similar makes are available on ebay for less money than I paid, but I'm very happy with the quality. Another bonus is that when in heavy rain your backside is lifted a little from the water that tends to accumulate under ones arse :)

I just got the RE Touring seat and rear cowl from Royal Sparezo, feels better on first sitting. Will go for a longer ride and see. Looks good with the rear cowl a well. Will take some photos and post for a verdict. Delivery was fast and price was more than right.

You could have a look on Amazon at what Sahara Seats covers has to offer.
They are cheap enough , better than OEM quality and come with a draw cord round the perimeter which make fitting easy and lets you experiment till you find something that suits your butt.
And saves the cost of a HD stapler and SS staples.
You might still want to staple them when you have finished experimenting , and the draw cord makes this a easy one man job too.

Corbin has seats for the INT/ GT. Has anyone tried one yet?
Old thread but, I don't get on here too often.
First 300mi ride on the stock seat and my nuts felt like they were clamped in a vise!
Ordered the RE "touring" seat .....not much better😣
Bit the bullet and ordered a Corbin Gunfighter seat and wow!
Was really pricey but, it was worth every penny!

I'm too old (85) to fool around with mediocrity. I have a Russell "Day Long" seat on my '17 Honda CB-500F and it is heaven on earth compared to the horrid OEM plank. Last fall I had a Russell seat done on the Enfield's pan. Russels are not cheap. This with shipping cost me a bit over $600, but I can ride for several hours with no standing on the pegs to get butt relief. "Pay for the best and only cry once".

For $618 I just don't know. I think I'll be taking the cover off and adding a thin layer of memory foam.
Haha yeah, Corbins are crazy money. My brother has one on his INT650. Some people sure put a high value on their butts.

*pats stock Himalayan seat fondly

edit: that said, I paid $200 for a Brooks B135 bicycle saddle once. Have definitely bought bicycles for less than that!
