Warranty Claims UK

Good afternoon everyone.

This may not be the latest news but I have just found out and I don't remember reading this here before.

Royal Enfield UK are now dealing with warranty claims directly. MotoGB, in this respect, are no more.

We have some hope for an improvement in service.

Regards

Thanks Rob, we are already aware but i have to say the news does not give me a warm cuddly feeling at all, in fact Warranty is a swear word in my house.

I started a thread in the UK section a few months back………..have a look.
My experience is that current UK RE support is terrible. If I was looking to buy a RE bike now I would buy something else due to the poor back up, which is a real shame as the Himmy and others in the RE range are really good bikes and my local dealer in Taunton is also good. I really do hope that it improves.

I was hoping it would improve the service. Last year MotoGB refused a warranty claim because I 'd used the bike off road. I sent them screenshots of the "built for all roads and no roads" advertising blurb and was still refused. Fortunately, I'm reasonably good with a spanner and a hammer so can fix most small things.

Let's see what happens with my broken clutch switch claim.

A clutch switch can be had for less than ten quid as they are common to a few other bikes and takes less than 10 minutes to install.
No spanner or hammer but a JIS screwdriver for the two small screws helps.
Probably cheaper and faster than taking the bike to the dealer.
RE are no different to most other manufacturers, most make warranty claims as slow and inconvenient as possible to discourage you from making minor claims,

I cracked a sump guard bracket. Thre was no impact/crash damage . I sent my local dealer pics and a description, the reply was Royal Enfield were high;y unlikely to honor a claim.
That was without actually seeing the damage. or talking to me, so not a good start on a six month old bike.

One of the welded nuts on the lower frame that the sump guard bolts to came un welded on mine, and that was after I’d taken it off (for an unrelated reason) and made sure that all of the mountings weren’t stressed after reading about cracking issues.
I didn’t bother even trying to claim, ( but may do at some point in the future) as I self service after the valves weren’t checked at the first service. The dealer is no more, and not one I’d used before.
The dealer that I’ve had a relationship with for years (Aprilia, but also RE) is happy to lodge a claim for the lower frame section, which is what is replaced, however the riv nut I put in is still in after 1k miles, so for now I’m leaving well alone. Thankfully nothing major has broken - just a few niggly problems which I’ve been happy to sort.
TBH I’m not sure how someone with zero mechanical knowledge or interest would’ve coped with it though.

I would have thought the dealers would prefer customers with no mechanical sills so they get to do all the work. This must cut both ways when warranty work is required by assisting helpfully and speedily.

I repaired my cracked sump guard bracket myself and even managed to get a good condition spare on ebay cheaply. It makes you wonder what RE would pay for though.

Agreed, but if a dealer’s attitude is as bad as to be believed from some people’s experiences on here (and fb groups), they really don’t deserve to be in business, and a manufacturer (RE in this instance) can end up with a really poor reputation very quickly through no fault of their own, apart from allowing the importer to appoint dealers in the first place.
I guess this, and an ever expanding range and improved quality product is why RE themselves have taken over the whole import and distribution effort. Plus of course there’s a whole profit taking level removed from the supply chain which must be attractive to them.
I just hope that people’s experience with RE direct improves, and they start answering the phone and acknowledging emails.

With the 2020/21 proposals to ban internal combustion engines from 2030 or 2035 (Govt cannot make it's mind up?), there seems to be small incentive for dealers to take on new trainee staff - even IF they could find them anyway!
And those mechanics that we do have, the older ones, don't get any younger, retire, don't get replaced.....

Good point. Another reason to keep things simple with a HImmy.
