windscreen advice

Hello all - about to receive my '22 Interceptor in a few weeks. Any advice or experience with windscreens would be a big help. The tall stock is too small but I don't want a barn door either. I'm 5'6"

I fitted a Puig screen having fitted one to my BMW G310R and been very pleased with the reduction in wind pressure. You can get larger screens but these are not necessary and can acted like a sail. I am only 5’6” and find this size screen works well and can be fitted in 10mins via the headlight bolts. You may also think of replacing the original seat for the GT Continental Touring seat, I found this to be more comfortable and at my height easier to get both feet down because the seat slightly narrower and lower at the front.AE73D175-DFC1-4036-A035-D460B387374C.jpeg

Thanks for taking the time to respond Cobbler. There aren't many cobblers left here in Canada! The Puig screen looks great (any idea of the model name or number?) and it's a bonus that it functions well. I'm coming from a '21 Tiger GT and one of the few things I will miss (available range of tire sizes is another) is the superbly designed adjustable windscreen which keeps the rider fairly dry in the rain and, of course, it can be adjusted on the fly. I wonder if anyone has designed an adjustable aftermarket one for the RE.

You chose the Continental touring seat over the interceptor - it is much more aesthetically pleasing and seems, by all accounts, to be more comfortable.
Your machine looks terrific! I love the silver rims - the black makes the bike look too chunky IMHO. My dealer here in Toronto has swapped out the black-rimmed ones for silver on my Mark 2 - must be from an earlier model I suppose. I'm thinking the silver mudguards add to the airier look too, maybe my dealer can swap those too - what year is yours?

And, what exhaust system are you running? The pipes look very neat - tucked in - seem less visually cluttered than stock and probably much lighter. Do they impact the performance for good or bad and aren't too loud? I am having the S&S mufflers installed which seems to be rigueur but maybe I will look into these ones.
Cheers

My Puig screen is from M&P £32 as advertised on the eBay link above. The 2into1 exhaust system is a Stinger from Tecbikeparts and was fitted at time of purchase because the original twin exhaust made the bike too wide to get down the side of the house. I have had BMWs Triumphs and Moto Guzzi but the RE 650 twins have the widest exhaust of any bike. The 2into1 saves a lot of weight and has a good sound with the standard baffles fitted but I have just fitted the quieter baffle option. The bike is a Markiii 2020

Width story is funny! But it is remarkably wide and something I had not considered. Mine will have to fit into a garden shed sharing space with lawn mower, snow blower and various garbage and recycling containers - and lots of other detritus. It' so tight that I installed a front wheel chock in order for my Tiger GT to stand upright and not lean as is does on the side stand (no centre stand on it). I'll do some more research based on your info. Many thanks

Cobbler, any chance there's a model # on that screen? I've looked everywhere, M&P doesn't show it and nothing in that price range at all. Puig's website has hundreds of windscreens but yours seems to be unique in that it has no upper arms for support, which I like.

Hello Gotbikes,
I have a 2019 650 Continental GT that I’m running the large RE windscreen and like it just fine. It has just enough protection for me.

I’m also running the S&S race only pipes without the baffles. They sound amazing without being loud at all. They really help with the top end and give it a crisper throttle response. I’m also running the beautifully made Stratos Performance air filter and their CNC machined inlet keeper. This combination gives you a little better lower end.

This are very easy items to install yourself and to reset your EFI just let your motor idle for 12 minutes then take it out for a very conservative ride without blipping the throttle for ten miles.

I just noticed you are getting a 2022 model, before you start looking at any modifications that may effect the ECU like changes to the exhaust system or a BoosterPlug you must check if your bike is fitted with a Euro4 or Euro5 ECU as modifications are restricted. Just because it’s a 2022 model it may have been fitted with a Euro4 ECU on the production line. When you get the bike look under the seat it’s easy to spot which as been fitted there is a label which has the Euroxx type fitted. The photo is of my Euro4 ECU the Euro5 is also larger. Hope this helps.
